Sloan Lubrication Systems is seeking an experienced and dedicated professional to join our close-knit team as Controller. In this role, you will help carry forward our tradition of excellence by delivering high-quality financial leadership and support that strengthens our company, our customers, and our employees.
Position Summary
The Controller is a senior financial position responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information. As a key leader in the organization, the Controller will also contribute to strategic financial planning and decision-making, working closely with the CEO. The Controller will manage financial reporting, cost control, budgeting, and cash flow management, as well as overseeing members of the Accounting Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee the preparation and review of all financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reports with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Analyze financial performance, identifying variances between actual results and budgeted/forecasted numbers, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Communicate financial results and key performance metrics to the CEO
Strategic Financial Planning & Budgeting
- Partner with the CEO to set financial goals, priorities, and long-term strategies for the business.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working cross-functionally to gather input from key departments.
- Monitor business performance through financial modeling and forecasting, providing insights into trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Drive cost-control initiatives, working closely with senior leadership to optimize financial performance.
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Oversee cash flow forecasting to ensure the business has the financial resources necessary to meet operational needs and capital investment goals.
- Maintain a close focus on working capital management, including overseeing accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory management processes.
- Analyze and report on inventory turns and manufacturing costs to improve working capital efficiency.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial controls and processes to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting principles.
- Ensure that financial records are maintained in compliance with tax laws, statutory requirements, and industry standards.
- Coordinate compliance with filings of all tax returns.
- Coordinate and oversee the company's annual audit process, providing necessary documentation and responses to auditors.
Leadership & Team Management
- Direct and supervise the Accounting Analyst, ensuring the accurate execution of daily accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and assigned Analyst duties.
- Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging accountability and professional development among team members.
- Review and approve accounting entries, reconciliations, and any financial reports prepared by the Accounting Analyst.
Operational Support
- Collaborate with the CEO and other senior leaders to assess operational performance and recommend initiatives to reduce costs and improve profitability.
- Assist with pricing strategies and margin analysis, helping ensure that manufacturing costs are accurately tracked and controlled.
- Provide financial support for capital expenditures, evaluating return on investment (ROI) for potential investments in production equipment, facilities, or other business assets.
Knowledge, Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Strong background in manufacturing accounting, including cost accounting, inventory management, and cost of goods sold analysis.
- Experience working in a small to mid-sized business environment, with a hands-on approach to accounting and financial management.
- Proven ability to manage both the transactional and strategic aspects of finance.
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and corporate financial regulations.
- Experience in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess complex financial data and present actionable insights.
- Proficiency in ERP Systems, Accounting Software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
