Purpose

To perform custodial maintenance tasks in a team cleaning environment. Perform specialized rotating duties as restroom specialist, utility specialist, light duty specialist and vacuum specialist. Be a positive representative for Custodial Services. Please note: This position is Saturdays, Sundays, and ALL UT Holidays. Shift hours: 6am to 5pm (with 1 hour lunch break). Overtime may be required with little or no advance notice. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing a background check and receiving an acceptable driver's rating. Responsibilities

  • Unlock and lock exterior doors and classrooms according to schedule and with a high level of accuracy. Abide by key control and alarm procedures. Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions.
  • Perform general cleaning in all university facilities according to schedule and using safe and prescribed procedures. Service and restock restrooms. Respond to custodial requests and emergencies. Fill in as required for other crew members.
  • Communicate effectively with clients on cleaning issues. Use two-way radios.
  • Use custodial equipment to include back pack vacuum and wet dry vacuum.
  • Perform set ups for special events. Pick up linens after events.
  • Provide emergency response and clean up for floods and other custodial emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Six months experience in any of the following fields: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance. Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to follow verbal instructions. Must be able to communicate via two-way radio. Basic reading skills in order to understand work orders, product labels, and other written job materials. Stable work history. Strong attendance record. Ability to walk 3 to 5 miles daily. Must have a reliable means of communicating with the department outside of work by phone.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

High school, GED or higher. More than six months experience in any of the following fields: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance. Demonstrated ability to communicate with supervisors and peer group in a timely, respectful, and effective manner. Demonstrated ability and willingness to be an effective team member. Well-developed interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Experience in a busy environment working around clients. Excellent initiative, attention to detail, and ability to change tasks quickly and willingly according to changing needs and instructions. Experience using commercial custodial equipment.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary

$18,720 annually + depending on qualifications(Annualized salary based upon 20 hours per week)

  • Use of cleaning products/custodial equipment. Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs. Ability to walk 3 to 5 miles. Constantly use personal protective equipment, and safety footwear.

Work Shift

  • Saturday -Sunday from 6am to 5pm (with 1 hour lunch break)
  • UT Holidays Required
  • Overtime may be required with little or no advance notice.
