Position Summary, Team Structure & Elevation Opportunities

As an Electrical Apprentice, you will have a crucial part in the implementation of a Smart Building System. From performing site audits, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, etc. You will also be responsible for the provisioning and testing of the system, to ensure the client's project is delivered as smoothly as possible. You will be supporting the Project Manager/Coordinator in the successful execution & delivery of a system for the customer.

IoT Deployment Services team structure and horizontal structure provide Project Managers & Coordinators the autonomy they need to oversee the project's execution with the assistance of our talented Field Employees. Electrical Apprentices are the "boots on the ground" team members of the overall team that perform and execute the core responsibilities of getting the system operational. They report directly to a Project Manager within the team, and typically work alongside an Electrical Team Lead, Installation Technicians and Commissioning Technicians.

Applicant Qualifications

  • (Required) 2-3 years of commercial electrical experience.
  • (Required) A willingness to travel 50% - 100% of the month/year with working schedule flexibility (overnights)
  • (Required) A willingness to use your personal smartphone for work purposes (phone calls, emails, messages, etc.)
  • (Required) Ability to frequently lift and/or move 10 pounds and periodically lifting and/or move 50 pounds or more.
  • (Required) Ability to climb ladders when installing wiring and equipment in ceilings.
  • (Required) Comfort working in tight or cramped spaces.
  • (Required) Willingness to work in various elements such as outdoors, in industrial settings, or in environments with temperature extremes, noise, or dust.
  • (Required) Ability to read schematics, blueprints and submittal drawings.
  • (Required) High level of computer literacy & Experience with Office 365 products (Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • (Bonus) OSHA 10 or 30 Certification
  • (Bonus) Educational background in engineering, construction, electrical, project management, or information technology.
  • (Bonus) has their limited electrical license or passed the North Carolina Limited Electrical exam.
  • (Bonus) Experience leading a small team of electricians or installation technicians.
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with IoT, PLC, A/V or control devices/systems
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with low voltage cabling and devices or thermostat wiring
  • (Bonus) Direct experience with Daintree, Leviton, Casambi, Hubbell, Crestron, Lutron, etc.

Expectations & Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • General Commercial Electrical Installation – Panel board installation, conduit installation, electrical terminations
  • Turnkey Lighting or A/V Installation – Working with design team to fully install Lighting Control systems and Audio-Visual systems
  • Electrical System Inspections – Working with electrical sub-contractors to verify that their installation is up to IoT Deployment and Client Standards
  • Cable Pulling & Termination - Use appropriate techniques to run category and structured cables from the source to their destination. This could involve running cables through walls, ceilings, or under floors. Use cable management techniques to keep the cables organized and protected.
  • Mounting Devices - Install electronic devices at their designated locations. This might involve mounting switches, routers, access points, or other networking equipment onto walls, ceilings, racks, or other structures.
  • System Commissioning - Doing all tasks necessary to set up a control system, including but not limited to commissioning devices, creation of zones/spaces within the system, creating & applying schedules, etc.
  • System Testing & Verification - Whether it be on-site or remotely, an Electrical Apprentice shall lead the verification process to test the functionality of devices for the system and record such results, including issues.
  • Rapid Device/System Troubleshooting & Resolution – Whether it be onsite or remotely, a critical aspect of an Electrical Apprentice is the ability to quickly and accurately determine the cause of an issue and either directly apply the resolution/fix or recommend solutions to on-site installers for them to put in place.
  • Project Documentation Creation & Upkeep – Creation and management of project documentation. Such as Designs, as-builts, verification reports, punch lists, etc. You will also be expected to keep project, customer, end-user or team documentation, logs, notes, etc. up to date. This ranges from internal company software to external customer expectations.
  • Proactive Status Updates & Communication - A Electrical Apprentice is a Project Manager's first line in gathering information regarding project happenings, and adequately relaying that information back to the Project Manager and their team so Managers & Coordinators can react to information as the project is on-going and relay important information to project stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive Owners Training – Showing off, demoing, and overall providing on-site or remote training for an end-user of a system you finished installing.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assisting Other Teams - From time to time, an Electrical Apprentice may be required to work on the systems or projects outside of their typical team.
  • Process Improvements - As Electrical Apprentice, you have the greatest visibility in our electrical work and installation tasks, and will play a part in the conversations about how we can improve these processes.

Travel Expectations, Requirements & Benefits

All Electrical Apprentices, regardless of time with the company or team they are a part of, are expected to travel (domestically or internationally) between 50% - 100% of a given month/year. The primary reason for this is due to the type of services our Electrical Apprentices, and by extension IoT Deployment Services as a whole, provide need to be performed in an on-site setting.

  • Valid Passport
  • A willingness to travel 50% - 100% of the month/year.
  • A willingness to utilize personal vehicle (if needed), rental cars are provided whenever possible and aimed for.
  • Ability to Accrue Airfare, Hotel & Rental Car Travel Points

· $75.00 overnight Daily Per Diem, $37.50 non-overnight Daily Per Diem

· Ability to accrue mileage when personal vehicle is used for reimbursement, based on the current IRS rate.

  • 11-15 Days of Hotel Nights in 1 month = $500 Bonus
  • 16+ Hotel Nights in 1 month =$1,000 Bonus
  • Top Travelers of each Quarter receive an additional non-cash reward.

Company Provided Equipment

Upon hiring, a new Electrical Apprentice will be provided the following:

  • PPE, such as a Hard hat, Safety Vest, & Safety Glasses. You must supply your own steel-toed shoes.
  • Tools, such as cable testers and small hand tools. They change over time as we work on new technologies.
  • Office Equipment, such as a laptop, tablet, mouse, etc. We do not supply office furniture for remote workers.
