Senior Accounting Operations Specialist

Job Summary:
This is a highly important role within the Finance Department at Democracy Federal Credit Union, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. The main focus of this position is to ensure that all credit union procedures and regulatory requirements are followed to the highest standard. Please note that this job description is intended to give an overview of the primary responsibilities and additional duties that may be assigned. Some tasks may not be necessary, and others may be added depending on the department's needs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of the department policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with these policies across the organization.
- Acts as a point of contact for finance staff in various areas, including online banking transactions like Remote Deposit Capture, Bill Payer, A2A, and Zelle, as well as ACH, shared drafts, and wire processing
- Confirm that all email requests have been processed and responded to daily.
- Responsible for researching and resolving all incoming and outgoing cash letter adjustments from the Federal Reserve Bank.
- Handling chargebacks and debit card processing and resolving any possible disputes.
- Ensure members receive timely notifications regarding check holds, dispute letters, and deposit adjustments.
- Timely notifying the appropriate parties - such as Risk Management, TruStage, Management, and the Board of Directors - of any instances of fraud or card losses.
- Performs reconciliation duties for various general ledger accounts, to be assigned by the Accounting Manager/VP of Finance.
- Performs backup duties for the Finance department related to ACH, Share Draft, and Online activity.
- Serves as a valuable asset for other departments when resolving operational matters.
- Maintain excellent services by staying current with industry trends and providing our members with exceptional experiences.
- Responsible for receiving ongoing ACH Rules and Regulations training through seminars and official manuals. Maintains current knowledge of Regulation D requirements and all areas of the share draft function by reading and attending various workshops and conferences. Update and maintain the internal department operating procedures.
Position Specifications/Requirements
- Working knowledge of Symitar, PSCU, CO-OP Shared Branch Network, Fiserv, Ensenta, STAR
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Proven ability to read, write, and communicate at a level consistent with the requirements of this position
- Excellent interpersonal skills and customer development skills
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues
- Strong attention to detail
- Good, sound, and practical judgment
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in credit unions
- Working knowledge of NCUA rules and regulations
- Working knowledge of Regulation E, Regulation GG, Regulation CC, Regulation D, Visa Operating Regulations, and Nacha Rules and Regulations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external members, staff, and Management
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
Pay: $60, $65,000.00 per year
