We are seeking an Oil Well P&A Project Engineer to join our Bakersfield, CA team Come join us

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee well sealing projects, involving multiple subcontractors and internal team members.
  • Communicate with and align team beyond scope of work to maximize outcomes for all stakeholders.
  • Communicate project changes with project management team.
  • Manage quality and Health Safety and Environment to achieve zero incidents.
  • Ability to understand project scope based upon RFP and contract.
  • Proactively identify project issues and develop options for corrective action.
  • Procure additional follow-on work of varying types from clients/stakeholders.
  • Manage logistics, resources, and personnel involved in carrying out P&A operations.
  • Plan and oversee any surface reclamation activities required after well abandonment.
  • Ensure that all P&A activities adhere to relevant environmental regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards during oil well abandonment process.
  • Promote an environment where Atlas team members establish relationships and build trust with their clients and stakeholder counterparts.
  • Assist the program manager, engineering manager, and field superintendent with planning, daily activities, and reporting.
  • Analyze well files of active and idle wells to ensure proper CalGEM procedures and regulations are in place and met.
  • Add new and missing data reports (daily operations, casing, cementing, perforation, wellbore equipment) to the database system and quality check existing data reports.
  • Create wellbore diagrams based on the information from available well history. Collaborate with team members to discuss Atlas-wide standards for creating well reports with irregular wellbores/sidetracks/completions.
  • Assist the engineering manager in preparing well histories.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (petroleum, chemical, civil, mechanical, or electrical) or geology from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in oil well operations (re-completion and/or abandonment).
  • Understand wellbore construction, casing integrity, cement integrity, and current trends in plugging and abandonment techniques.
  • Ability to analyze well data and make sound engineering judgements.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and ability to interface with regulatory agencies.
  • Experience monitoring for the presence and quantity of methane, hydrogen sulfide and other gases.
  • Experience using geophysical and other remote sensing techniques to identify the location of orphan wells.
  • Experience preparing and interpreting well bore diagrams for oil wells. 9. Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, including regulators, contractors, and other engineers.

Technical requirements:

  • A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, Professional Geologist (P.G.), LSRP, or other like registration is highly preferred.
  • Experience with complex remedial projects.

Other miscellaneous qualities:

  • Must be local to Bakersfield, CA or the surrounding area.

Compensation:

$30 - $34 hourly

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state's law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
