The Physician Supervisor is a clinical leadership role responsible for the oversight, mentorship, and development of an assigned team of physicians and nurse practitioners within a value-based geriatric care model. This role provides clinical leadership focused on evidence-based practice, provider performance, and advanced care strategies. The Physician Supervisor maintains a prorated clinical caseload, serves as a clinical thought leader, and collaborates with the NP Supervisors and other leadership to optimize care quality, patient outcomes, and operational excellence.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO with active Minnesota medical license
  • Board-certified and in good standing
  • Strong background in value-based care and geriatrics
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, lead, and coach clinicians
  • DEA license in accordance with prescribing duties
  • Experience with clinical documentation and regulatory standards

Essential Functions:

Responsible

  • Manage day-to-day operations of MD team, including PTO, sick calls, and problem-solving.
  • Hold individual meetings with providers three times per year and as needed to reinforce expectations and provide supportive coaching tailored to their needs.
  • Provide clinical consultation and support for assigned team (MDs and NPs), including escalation for complex cases.
  • Deliver provider coaching and 1:1s at least three times per year and as needed
  • Lead and review annual and PRN chart audits focused on clinical decision-making, documentation, and coding.
  • Serve as a clinical mentor by providing ongoing education, case reviews, and best practices during regular physician meetings.
  • Approve PTO and support appropriate coverage strategies to maintain care continuity.
  • May delegate the technical task of PTO approval to appropriate support staff.
  • Facilitate regular Physician team meetings in partnership with the Director of Clinical Practice.
  • Maintain a clinical panel and model best practices in geriatric primary care.
  • Address physician-level practice variation from Genevive's clinical and operational standards.
  • Champion clinical innovation and high-acuity decision-making within the team.
  • Lead by example in clinical excellence and population health strategy.
  • Serve as on-call backup support in rotation with other leaders.

  • Physician adherence to performance standards.
  • Provider engagement and development among the physician cohort.

Consulted

  • Collaborate on workflow and clinical process improvement with clinical leadership.
  • Participate in provider onboarding, serving as mentor and subject matter expert.
  • Provide feedback on clinical complaints and behavioral performance concerns.
  • Inform exit strategies for facility relationships, when aligned with organizational direction.
  • Advise on EHR efficiency improvements in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Practice.
  • Engage in performance improvement project initiatives as a team member for relevant projects.

Informed

  • Stay updated on population health metrics, panel data, and organizational initiatives.
  • Receive updates on facility transitions and onboarding to ensure continuity of leadership support

Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping throughout the workday; occasional kneeling and climbing stairs when providing in person visits.
  • Requires frequent use of hands and fingers for charting, documentation, and operating medical equipment.
  • Must have adequate vision, hearing, and tactile sensation to assess patient conditions, observe changes, and ensure safety.
  • Regular travel between facilities, or meetings may be required; must maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Requires the ability to assess complex clinical situations, make sound decisions, and prioritize multiple patient needs in dynamic care settings.
  • Must demonstrate empathy and composure while supporting patients and families through aging, illness, and end-of-life situations.
  • Clear, compassionate communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members across diverse backgrounds.
  • Sustained focus required for accurate assessment, medication administration, and documentation.
  • Ability to adjust to unpredictable situations, variable patient acuity, and changing work environments between facility, home, and remote settings.
  • Must maintain professionalism and effectiveness under pressure, balancing clinical duties, administrative tasks, and documentation requirements.
  • Work is frequently performed in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and other congregate care settings. Employees may be exposed to infectious diseases, odors, cleaning agents, and varying temperature condition.
