GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

Produce clerk ensures that produce displays, and shelving are maintained well stocked, clean, organized, and presentable. Trims and rotates product to ensure freshness and quality control. Offers assistance to customers needs to meet the goals and objectives of the department. 

DUTIES:

1. Smile and greet all customers while providing them with extraordinary customer service.

2. Achieve and maintain company goals and standards for merchandising, orders, price integrity, presentation,  signage, quality of product, and stocking of displays.

3. Assists in all areas of produce department operation.

4. Control department expenses; take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses.

5. Properly handle produce items with care to prevent damage, poor quality, and waste.

6. Load and transport produce merchandise to and from coolers, storage areas, to wet rack and sales floor.

7. Maintain produce wet rack, displays, storage rooms, preparation room and shelving well

stocked, clean, organized, and presentable at all times.

8. Promote sales by suggestive selling.

9. Report poor quality of product to department manager immediately.

10. Ensure to accurately apply pricing signage.

11. Trim, stock, rotate produce items to ensure freshness according to company procedures and guidelines.

12. Work as a team member, assist coworkers when needed.

13. Work out merchandising plans for the department that has been approved and provided by the department manager and supervisor.

14. Will assist in the housekeeping and maintenance of produce storage areas.

15. Work safely and be aware of co-workers and customer safety at all times.

16. Correct and communicate unsafe acts by team members, and or unsafe conditions, or equipment immediately to store director or department supervisor.

17. Ensure favorable department image with customer through a clean, attractive and friendly department

18. Follow all health code regulations ensuring the highest standards of food safety, personal hygiene, and sanitation are practiced.

19. Responsible to clean work areas; sweep and mop floors, wash produce equipment and supplies.

20. Follow and promote Company safety policies, ensure that team members are practicing safety, using safety equipment and safely using equipment.

21. Abide by all store rules, and Company policies as stated in Company�s Team member Handbook

22. Report team member injuries and or team member complaints of misconduct to store director, or department supervisor.

23. Treat co-workers and customers respectfully at all times. Do not use obscene and profane language while working.

24. Contact the department manager, store director or produce supervisor regarding any questions, problems, and concerns.

25. Keep key personnel advised of your whereabouts at all times.

26. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to learn all types of produce.
  • Ability to learn the care and use of machinery, equipment and tools used in the department.
  • Basic understanding of English language.
  • Must be able to effectively work in a fast paced, crowded environment.
