Elevator Operator

Summary:
The Elevator Operator position is responsible for assisting with the operations and housekeeping of the elevator and is expected to assist all areas of the unloading, loading and transferring of products which may include but not be limited to truck and rail operations.
Compensation: $30.34 / hour
Primary Duties:
Product Support:
- Assist in the unloading and loading of product by both rail and truck. This includes trucks, train hoppers, train cars, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using shuttlewagon, forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, and/or other manual tools.
- Weigh or measure materials and products, using scales or other measuring instruments, or read scales on conveyors that continually weigh products, in order to verify specified tonnages and prevent overloads.
- Determine grade and type of product and place into storage accordingly.
- Collect samples of materials or products, checking them to ensure conformance to specifications or sending them to laboratories for analysis. Document any variances in product weight or samples from normal.
- Clean and maintain equipment, machinery, and work stations, using hand tools, shovels, brooms, chemicals, hoses, and lubricants.
- Manipulate controls, levers, and valves to start pumps, auxiliary equipment, or conveyors, and to adjust equipment positions, speeds, timing, and material flows.
- Observe conveyor operations and monitor lights, dials, and gauges, in order to maintain specified operating levels and to detect equipment malfunctions. Inform supervisors of equipment malfunctions that need to be addressed and perform or assist in routine maintenance and repairs.
- Position deflector bars, gates, chutes, or spouts to divert flow of materials from one conveyor onto another conveyor.
- Record production data such as weights, types, quantities, and storage locations of materials, as well as equipment performance problems and downtime.
- Repair or replace equipment components or parts such as blades, rolls, and pumps.
- Remove choke-ups, cleans spills and follows proper safety policies while doing such.
Other Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the highest level of safety standards to ensure safety is ever present.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Able to work in tight and confined spaces, walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, grip, grasp, push and pull various tools and equipment
- Occasionally work at significant heights,
- Position requires the ability to lift and carry packages up to 50 pounds
- Have a normal tolerance to flour, powder and dust and not be allergic to them
- Read and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies and memos, and to communicate clearly with co-workers and supervisors
