Job Summary

The Plasma Cutting Machine Helper supports plasma cutting operations by assisting with material handling, machine operation support, and inspection of finished parts. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe operation, consistent quality, and efficient workflow within a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation Support

  • Assist with selecting cutting tips, consumables, and materials based on job requirements
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished parts using overhead cranes, forklifts, carts, or manual methods
  • Support machine setup and production flow by staging materials and removing completed parts
  • Monitor plasma cutting operations to ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency

Quality & Inspection

  • Measure parts using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other basic measuring tools
  • Inspect finished workpieces for defects, burrs, warping, or dimensional inaccuracies
  • Notify operators or leads when parts or machine performance fall outside acceptable parameters
  • Support scrap reduction and quality improvement efforts

Maintenance & Safety

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning nozzles, replacing consumables, and checking gas levels
  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use, material handling protocols, and fire prevention standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Report safety hazards, near misses, or equipment issues promptly

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Basic understanding of steel types, material thickness, and measurement fundamentals
  • Ability to read tape measures and use basic measuring tools
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Familiarity with general shop safety practices and PPE requirements

Preferred

  • Forklift and/or overhead crane certification or experience
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or metal shop environment
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/fabrication shop with exposure to noise, sparks, heat, fumes, and moving machinery
  • Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, flame-resistant gear, and steel-toe footwear
  • Overtime, shift work, or weekend schedules may be required based on production needs

Compensation (California Pay Transparency)

Pay Range: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour

Actual pay will be based on experience, skills, and internal equity. AMSEC offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off.
