Senior Accountant / HR Specialist

Milwaukee, WI

Are you a seasoned accounting professional with a strong HR background, ready to step into a leadership-track role? Office Furniture Resources is seeking a Senior Accountant / HR Specialist who thrives in a hands-on, small business environment. In this pivotal position, you'll take ownership of key accounting functions, drive process improvements, and support compliance and reporting — while also overseeing core HR responsibilities. This is a unique opportunity to grow into a future leadership role, with direct mentorship from the VP of Finance and a clear path toward advancement.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Finance

  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and monthly closing activities.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, management reports, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Reconcile bank, monitor cash balances, and ensure proper fund allocations.
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee sales tax tracking and filing across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Support year-end closing, audits, and coordination with tax professionals.
  • Continuously evaluate accounting procedures and systems for improvement and automation opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and external regulations.

Human Resources

  • Oversee recruiting, onboarding, and employee file maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with HR regulations and coordinate safety and training initiatives.
  • Support payroll processing in collaboration with third-party providers.
  • Help manage benefits enrollment and employee communications as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a small or mid-sized company.
  • HR generalist experience or interest in supporting HR-related functions.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
