Child Development Special Education Assistant Teacher

Program: The Elaine Clark Center Child Development Program offers a unique experience for Early Childhood Educators with a program designed to meet the needs of children with developmental differences. We are a non-profit facility with a vision of unison among families, students and staff and a focus on quality rather than quantity. Our Inclusive Center offers low ratios which allows for individuality and non-traditional approaches to teaching. Students have a variety of developmental levels and teachers are challenged to provide inclusive learning methods that allow each child to grow and reach maximum goals to the best of their abilities. Teachers work with the Therapy Team, Program Coordinator and family to create and adapt basic child development activities that meet the individual needs of their students based on the curriculum.
Position Summary
The Early Childhood Asssitant Teacher facilitates and implemens classroom instruction, management and routines on a daily basis as directed by the Lead Teacher. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher to ensure each child's needs are met consistently on a daily basis through therapeutic play, practical life application and other varied approaches to learning and teaching the young child. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for communicating information on paperwork, student goals and assessment as well as daily anecdotal notations on students. Other requirements include creating a healthy and staff learning environment for students and their families as well as providing professional leadership to support staff in the classroom. Annual training is required with CPR/first aid mandatory within the first 30-90 days.
This position is ideal for someone looking to work in a different type of educational setting giving relevant experience to those wishing to further their education pursuing careers in special education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and nursing. More than 75% of our assitant teachers go on to be lead teachers in the program.
