Refugee Youth Solidarity through Education (RYSE) is a Rhode Island-based nonprofit that fosters literacy, confidence, and community among K-12 refugee youth through hands-on, joyful summer learning and leadership development. RYSE values inclusivity, equity, and cultural and educational empowerment, striving to create a tailored and supportive learning environment that uplifts the diverse identities and experiences of refugee youth. The Refugee Youth Empowerment AmeriCorps Program will unite staff, volunteers, and AmeriCorps members to run Camp RYSE, a five-week summer day camp that provides free literacy, STEM, and enrichment activities to approximately 100 multilingual learners, ages 5-18. AmeriCorps members will support this project by working alongside RYSE staff to plan, coordinate, and facilitate educational and enrichment activities, evaluate camper progress, and promote family and community engagement. By taking on these duties, AmeriCorps members help expand the program's reach and ensure its positive impact on participants.
Member Duties : Camp RYSE Coordinators are responsible for the planning, coordination, and daily operations of Camp RYSE, a five-week literacy and STEM summer camp for refugee youth. Responsibilities include community outreach to enroll campers, revising curriculum and lesson plans, organizing field trips and enrichment activities, developing and managing schedules, coordinating with partner organizations, and implementing behavior management practices. Coordinators also play a key role in building a supportive, fun, and culturally congruent environment for campers.
