Job Title: Shared Services Cost Accountant –Accounting

Job Summary

HPF Consultants, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Cost Accountant to oversee all accounting functions across the whole organization, with a primary focus on cost accounting, financial reporting, and margin analysis. This position supports the company's full accounting operations — including Automation, Engineering, and Support divisions — ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance in all financial activities.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in cost accounting within a production or fabrication environment, along with proven experience in general ledger management, financial forecasting, and cross-departmental collaboration. This individual will play a key role in maintaining cost integrity, supporting strategic business decisions, and strengthening the company's overall financial health.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Oversee the accuracy and integrity of HPF's general ledger and financial systems.
• Perform monthly and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Reconcile all Balance Sheet accounts, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Customer Deposits, Unearned Revenue, Sales Tax Payable, Prepaids, Intercompany, and Accrued Liabilities.
• Prepare and review monthly financial reporting packages, including the Profit and Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows.
• Support cash forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning cycles.
• Ensure accounting practices align with GAAP and internal policies.

Cost Accounting & Analysis

• Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures to support all HPF departments.
• Analyze job and project costs, comparing estimated versus actual performance, and provide variance analysis with corrective recommendations.
• Monitor material valuation, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
• Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to ensure accurate cost allocation and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Evaluate margin performance and impacts from overhead, freight, and indirect costs.
• Prepare margin, revenue, and cost performance dashboards for leadership review.

Operational Collaboration & Process Improvement

• Partner with operations, engineering, and project managers to align accounting processes with company objectives.
• Serve as the primary liaison for ad hoc financial reporting, audits, and compliance reviews.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of cost control initiatives and process improvements.
• Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning discussions.
• Support the migration and optimization of financial data platforms and ERP systems.

Qualifications

Education & Credentials

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including cost accounting within a production, project-based, or fabrication environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of GAAP, cost allocation, and variance analysis.
• Proven ability to support companywide financial operations and reporting cycles.

Skills & Competencies

• Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUPs, and data models).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with operations, engineering, and leadership teams.
• High attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines.
• Experience with ERP or accounting platforms such as Zoho Books, QuickBooks, or similar systems.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Primarily office-based role located in Midland, TX.
• Standard office activities such as sitting, typing, filing, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs).
• Occasional travel to other HPF office locations or operational sites may be required.
