Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations of Redwood Surgery Center while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, AAAHC standards, and organizational policies. This role is ideal for a strong clinical leader who is comfortable working hands-on on the floor, actively supporting and supervising the nursing team, while also managing administrative, regulatory, and quality programs.

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide direct clinical support in Pre-Op, PACU, and OR as needed to maintain safe staffing levels.

  • Assist with patient assessments, IV starts, medication administration, airway support, and post-operative recovery.

  • Serve as a clinical resource for RNs, LVNs, surgical techs, and support staff.

  • Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, ASC standards, and infection prevention guidelines.

  • Oversee break coverage, staff assignments, and room turnover efficiency.

  • Monitor daily case flow and collaborate with anesthesia and surgeons to adjust staffing or workflow as needed.

  • Respond to clinical emergencies and support code management.

Administrative & Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily ASC operations to maintain compliance with AAAHC, CDPH, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility policies.

  • Manage and update clinical policies and procedures, including annual reviews.

  • Maintain required logs, binders, and reporting systems (infection control, QAPI, crash cart checks, narcotic logs, etc.).

  • Coordinate with the pharmacist consultant for medication approvals, formulary updates, and controlled substance processes.

  • Lead AAAHC and CDPH survey readiness efforts, ensuring all required documentation is complete and current.

Qualifications Required:

  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of perioperative or ambulatory surgery nursing experience.

  • Strong clinical skills in Pre-Op, OR and/or PACU settings.

  • BLS, ACLS and PALS certification.

  • Demonstrated leadership or charge nurse experience.
