About the Role
The PA will be responsible for patient assessment, clinical management, and supporting a broad range of health needs.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and review medical histories: Gather detailed health information from patients through interviews and chart reviews.
- Conduct patient examinations: Perform physical exams appropriate to the patient's condition and document findings.
- Diagnose and treat illnesses: Identify health problems, develop diagnoses, and manage acute and chronic medical issues.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests: Request laboratory studies, imaging, and other tests as necessary; interpret results to guide decision-making.
- Prescribe medications and treatments: Within the PA's scope of practice and as allowed by state law, prescribe medications and outline treatment regimens.
- Perform minor procedures: Administer injections, suture wounds, manage lacerations, and carry out other in-office or bedside procedures.
- Educate and counsel patients: Advise on disease management, preventive care, healthy lifestyle choices, and treatment plans.
- Coordinate care and referrals: Communicate with other professionals, arrange referrals, and ensure continuity of care for patients.
- Maintain patient records: Accurately document histories, exams, diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans in electronic or paper medical records.
- Assist in surgery: When working in hospitals, may support in surgical procedures and perioperative care.
- Patient follow-up: Monitor treatment progress, manage follow-up appointments, and respond to patient questions via visits or calls.
- Infection control & safety: Adhere to clinic/hospital policies for infection control and patient privacy.
- Team collaboration: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and allied health staff to optimize patient outcomes.
- Ongoing education: Participate in staff meetings, clinical guideline development, continuing medical education, and quality assurance activities.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and clinical procedures.
- Current state licensure, certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), PA-C, and any required DEA/controlled substance licenses.
