Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Education is looking for a Director for our Grant Compliance section This position will lead a team supporting federal grant programs, which includes conducting audits to ensure appropriate use of funds, providing technical assistance to stakeholders, and guiding them on federal regulations and financial best practices.
The hiring team is looking for candidates with experience supervising financial teams, especially in government or non-profit accounting. Pay Grade 11: $84,393.74/year
This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions
- Assists with review, interpretation, and implementation of federal and state laws and regulations related to fiscal compliance.
- Provides direction and technical assistance related to program compliance, applications, reviews, regulations, policies and procedures, and program standards.
- Coordinates preparation for external monitoring visits, reviews, audits, and cross-site evaluations. Monitors subrecipient compliance with regulations and requirements of their agreements, and monitors any necessary corrective action.
- Ensures monitoring procedures are compliant with regulations and sound business practices.
- Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations for monitoring and correcting internal, operational, personnel, management, and fiscal control systems as well as organizational unit performance.
- Monitors state and federal legislation, identifying issues and potential new programs and services.
- Supports training regarding grant compliance, and assists with development and delivery of training.
- Collaborates to implement the vision and mission for Grant Compliance by engaging in strategic planning, goal setting, and integration of NDE and Grant Compliance priorities.
- Provides leadership in the hiring, supervision, and potential discipline of staff. Conducts performance management activities including establishing annual goals related to the strategic plan, holding check-in meetings to discuss goal progress, and completing performance appraisals. Facilitates a continuous learning environment by promoting professional development to ensure all employees have the opportunity and skills to be efficient and effective in meeting the goals of the agency. Delegates work and projects appropriately among staff.
- Maintains regular & reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver's license and travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.
Working Conditions and Travel :
This position requires approximately 85% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 15% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as off-site conferences or meetings. There is also approximately five days of overnight travel per year.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and\or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Accounting or related field and at least four years of related experience, including in government or non-profit accounting. Successful experience with supervision of staff.
