Job Description

The Technical Writer II will be responsible for providing specialized documentation services, including preparing, reviewing, and editing technical documents, test plans, reports, and other project materials. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong writing and editing skills, as well as proficiency in various documentation tools and software. The Technical Writer II will work closely with engineers, analysts, and other professionals to ensure technical accuracy and clarity in all documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Documentation Services:

- Develop, write, incorporate inputs, format, and edit test-related plans, reports, and documentation

by researching specifications, technical manuals, test results, and other resources

- Prepare documents for final publication in electronic media/format, including producing memos, forms, reports, tables, and graphs using standard commercial software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

Editing and Reviewing:

- Provide technical writing and editing services for various documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established formats and standards

  • Review technical documents for content accuracy, organization, correct style/format, grammatical usage, spelling, and punctuation

  • Consult with subject matter experts to ensure correct technical interpretation and content

Technical Support:

- Support the preparation and revision of operation requirements, data handling plans, badge requests, test documentation, and specialized briefings

  • Assist in writing and editing detailed test plans and reports, including the preparation of data tables, charts, and plots for inclusion in reports

  • Perform data management tasks such as cataloging, storing, retrieval, reproduction, destruction, and proper packing and transportation of test-related materials

Quality Assurance:

- Ensure all documentation reflects the current system configurations and is up-to-date

  • Maintain a daily sign-in/sign-out log for users of technical facilities and document activities in accordance with security regulations

Data Management and Reporting:

- Maintain accurate logs documenting the activities of personnel and security incidents

  • Prepare and submit detailed reports, summaries, briefings, and other project engineering documentation as requested

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field

  • Minimum of three years of experience in technical writing, editing, or documentation support, preferably within a Government or military environment

  • Strong background in preparing and organizing technical documentation for engineering or IT projects

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other documentation tools

  • Familiarity with desktop publishing systems and audiovisual presentation software

  • Ability to utilize research tools and resources to gather information and verify content accuracy

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • This job operates both a traditional, professional office environment and austere environments where exposure to outside weather conditions will occur

  • This position requires work in a secure, non-windowed environment

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell

  • The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

  • Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed, sometimes on short

notice, to support test missions

Terms of Employment and Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.

  • Must be able to successfully complete a background check.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
