The Genoa City Jt. 2 School District is looking to fill a part-time, Special Education Paraprofessional and Wraparound Care position at our elementary school.

Job details

Afternoon: 12-3:30 pm supporting district needs, then Wraparound Care until 5:30 pm

Days: Monday-Friday, only when students are in attendance

Para/Wraparound position will be responsible for supporting district needs (classrooms, lunches, recess, etc.), when not providing Wraparound Care

Job Title: Paraprofessional

Role Overview: The Paraprofessional assists teachers in the classroom by providing instructional support and working with individual or small groups of students. This role helps reinforce learning, supervises students, and assists with classroom management. The Paraprofessional supports both special education and general education students in achieving their academic and behavioral goals under the teacher's guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and instructional strategies for individual or small groups of students.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their learning objectives.
  • Facilitate student engagement and reinforce learning through hands-on activities and individualized instruction.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers regarding student performance.
  • Help maintain a positive and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop and implement strategies for student success.
  • Assist students with personal care tasks, such as hygiene, toileting, feeding, and dressing, while promoting independence when needed.
  • Duties as assigned.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Experience working with school aged children, with a strong focus on literacy instruction skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities and backgrounds.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or associate degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience working with special needs students or in a specialized classroom setting.
  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and special education documentation.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of technology for classroom management and instructional support.

Work Environment:

  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours for professional development or planning meetings.
  • Collaborative environment, requiring frequent interaction with teachers, students, and parents.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the Director of Special Education; may also report to the principal.

Job Title: Before & After School Staff

Job Purpose/Overview: Provide supervision and support to students before and after regular school hours; facilitate safe and engaging activities; support social and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during before and after school hours
  • Plan and implement recreational activities
  • Maintain a safe environment
  • Communicate with parents and school staff
  • Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage groups of students
  • Knowledge of child development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a school or childcare setting
  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Knowledge of special needs accommodations
  • Skills in conflict resolution and group management

Physical Demands:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds
  • Active engagement with students in physical activities
  • Clear communication with students and staff

Work Environment:

  • School setting with access to indoor and outdoor spaces
  • Frequent interaction with students and staff
  • Exposure to normal school noise levels
  • Need to manage multiple activities simultaneously

Reports To: Site Coordinator; may report to school administration for specific tasks
