Unit Description:
The Vascular Access Services (VAS) team specializes in providing safe, efficient, and skilled placement of vascular access devices. This includes peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), midlines, central lines, and ultrasound-guided IVs. The team ensures patients receive reliable vascular access to support therapies such as IV medications, fluids, and nutrition. Our team focuses on the following:
- Advanced practice in ultrasound-guided vascular access, ensuring precision and safety in even the most complex cases
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, critical care, oncology, surgical, and medical units, to deliver timely access for patients with challenging needs.
- Troubleshooting line complications and serving as subject matter experts for vascular access device management and care.
* Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate the physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle factors of patients. * Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and standards of care, regularly evaluating and revising these plans as necessary. * Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely, following physician orders and hospital protocols, and monitor for adverse reactions. * Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatments, medications, and self-care strategies to promote understanding and compliance.
