The Analyst position will support the Investment Management Team with systematic and discretionary implementation related to both new and current investment processes. Systematic implementation will include executing existing strategy methodologies, creating pre-trade analytics, tracking and managing workflow of processes, standardizing execution instructions and documentation, and auditing these processes for accuracy and improvement. Discretionary implementation includes quantitative and qualitative macro research as applied to equities, fixed income, and derivative-based portfolios. Advancements in the role include conducting more in-depth research projects, automating tasks, new process design, and communication responsibilities with both internal and external stakeholders.

The Analyst will also regularly conduct pre- and post-trade analytics, trading commentary, strategy communication, performance analysis and attribution, and prepare meeting materials for the Team. The emphasis on each of these job duties may vary depending on the exact skillset, growth, and interest of the Analyst. The role is highly technical in nature and requires a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and programming, as well as a passion for markets and investing.

  1. Execute investment processes and trades, as well as document and improve the organization of these activities.
  2. Drive automation of implementation tasks where possible
  3. Provide general support analytics for the Team.
  4. Conduct directed and self-guided research to support the processes and strategies run by Horizon.
  5. Run pre- and post-trade reports using a variety of technical investment management tools and create documents to effectively communicate the results to the Investment Team.
  6. Write trade commentary, performance commentary, and process documentation for the covered strategies.
  7. Participate in Investment Team research and allocation meetings.
  8. Adhere to and demonstrate Horizon's corporate values on a consistent basis.

Competencies

Outstanding analytical skills with strong Microsoft Excel skills as a minimum requirement.Programming experience, or at a minimum the desire and affinity to learn programming skills. Python and Matlab are the preferred programming software tools used by the team.A strong technical background related to Finance, Hard Sciences (physics, chemistry, engineering, etc.), Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, and/or Computer Science. A business background is not required.Experience with using, or at a minimum a strong desire and affinity to learn, a variety of technical investment management tools such as Bloomberg, Factset, Morningstar etc.Well organized, detail oriented, and the ability to prioritize a variety of competing time sensitive tasks.Good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.A passion for markets and investing.

Required Education and Experience

  1. This is an entry level position on the Investment management team; professional work experience is not required but is preferred.
  2. Bachelor's Degree in math, finance or economics, computer science, or another technical field.
