Description
As a Crisis Response Specialist you will provide tele-health counseling and crisis support services to a portfolio of Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) school staff and students. The BIE BHWP provides culturally relevant, evidence-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and wellness services for school staff, students, and families at all Bureau-funded institutions, including Bureau-operated schools, Tribally Controlled Schools, post-secondary institutions, and Tribal colleges and universities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtain and follow impacted school/institution's emergency response plan/protocol for individuals with high-risk behavior or needing a higher level of care.
- Communicate with Crisis Lead and Crisis Support Team to ensure linkage, integration, and seamless delivery of all crisis support services.
- Document communication and follow-up from Protocall in Call Log.
- Screen and communicate student and staff safety concerns from Protocall with Crisis Response Team, Counseling Lead and Crisis Lead.
- Assist with crisis after-care plan to ensure students and staff are receiving supportive services, as needed.
- Develop and review crisis reports, templates, handouts and other resources.
- Update resources in each state for student and staff support.
- Participate in an active member of the BIE BHWP On-call Crisis Team rotating coverage for after-hours calls and virtual/on-site support requests.
- Conduct webinars, conference calls, telephone support and email with the BIE audience.
- Assist the BIE audience in strengthening existing services and/or building infrastructure for crisis response efforts.
- Coordinate with all BHWP departments to ensure collaboration, communication, joint development of materials, and training.
- Provide all necessary de-identified data for reporting purposes for inclusion in weekly updates, monthly performance reports, annual program reports, and any additional requested reports.
- Participate in crisis intake, coordination and debrief calls with impacted schools/departments, ensuring continuity of care and connection to ongoing services.
- Ensure the utilization of appropriate evidence-based and solution focused interventions in the treatment of clients.
- Adhere to patient confidentiality and comply with program crisis policy, state licensure guidelines, and federal regulations under the privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge and experience in conducting behavioral health assessments, leading individual and group counseling sessions, and facilitating psychoeducational sessions focused on behavioral health and/or wellness topics.
- Ability to work within strong professional ethics and rules of confidentiality to prove effective assessment and treatment of a variety of mental health disorders.
- Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding of how culture influences and impacts behavioral health services.
- Proven ability to form positive, effective, and culturally competent relationships with clients and team members.
- Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and deliver quality results under tight deadlines, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Adobe Connect, and database management.
- Working knowledge of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, case-management, and scheduling platforms.
- Ability to make psychosocial assessments and develop/implement viable care plans.
- Strong skills in written and verbal communication, assessment, advocacy, and crisis response.
- Ability to provide on-call and after-hours service as needed.
- Ability to travel on short notice to provide on-site crisis support.
- Will be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.
Education Requirement: Must possess a master's degree in a behavioral health related field, such as social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy/counseling, or rehabilitation counseling from an accredited graduate program.
Experience Requirement: Shall have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in providing counseling/therapy to children, adolescents, and/or adults and a minimum of two (2) years' experience providing crisis intervention services. Experience working within Tribal communities and schools although not required, is very highly desired.
Licensure/Certification Requirement: Mental Health Specialists shall possess a valid, unrestricted counseling license/certification from a state or U.S. Territory that grants legal authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or other types of fully licensed behavioral health professionals. Clinicians shall meet the standards of professional and ethical conduct prescribed by their particular discipline or licensing board.
