We are seeking a highly skilled Neonatology MD/DO to provide locum coverage in a rural setting in Western Colorado. This position offers an excellent opportunity to deliver specialized neonatal care in a dynamic healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise, including experience with neonatal ventilators, airway management, and critical care. The role involves working within a Level II trauma center, providing comprehensive inpatient neonatal services, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Candidates must be comfortable utilizing various electronic health record (EHR) systems and maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations. This is an urgent need for qualified neonatologists committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care in a rural community.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive neonatal care for newborns requiring intensive monitoring and treatment
- Manage neonatal ventilators, airway management, and respiratory therapy procedures
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and assessments of neonatal patients
- Develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with best practices and hospital protocols
- Utilize EHR systems such as Epic and EMR platforms for documentation, order entry, and patient tracking
- Collaborate with pediatric specialists, radiology teams (including diagnostic radiology), and nursing staff to coordinate care
- Perform procedures including suturing, lumbar punctures (spinal tap), and basic bedside interventions
- Monitor vital signs continuously and respond promptly to acute changes in patient condition
- Participate in clinical research initiatives related to neonatology and pediatric critical & intensive care
- Ensure infection control standards are maintained throughout all procedures and patient interactions
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree with board certification or eligibility in Neonatology or Pediatrics with Neonatal subspecialty training
- Valid medical license to practice in Colorado or eligible for licensure in the state
- Proven experience working in inpatient neonatal units, including Level II trauma center settings preferred
- Proficiency with electronic health records such as Epic, EMR systems, and diagnostic radiology tools
- Strong knowledge of physiology, medical terminology, and clinical evaluation techniques specific to neonates
- Ability to perform airway management, ventilator management, IV infusion administration, and basic life support (BLS) certification required
- Experience with hospital medicine practices including discharge planning, post-operative care, and family-centered care models
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards and patient confidentiality protocols
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams in a rural healthcare environment
