Job Summary:

The Lead Shipper will oversee all daily shipping activities to ensure efficient and accurate fulfillment of outbound orders. This role involves both hands-on work and team leadership, requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The Lead Shipper will serve as the primary point of contact for the shipping team and will report to the Warehouse or Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Supervision:

• Assign, distribute, and monitor daily shipping tasks to the fulfillment team.
• Provide training and guidance to new and existing team members on standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and quality standards.
• Lead by example by participating in all shipping duties, such as picking, packing, and loading, to ensure daily deadlines are met.
• Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, addressing employee issues and escalating serious matters to management.
• Monitor team performance against key metrics for productivity and accuracy.
• Create, maintain, and update standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Attend weekly leadership meetings to bridge HQ and operations, communicating priorities, updates, and issues both ways.

Shipping and Fulfillment Operations:

• Oversee the entire outbound order process, from picking and packing to staging and loading.
• Perform quality control checks on packed orders to ensure accuracy, proper labeling, and adherence to brand-specific packaging standards.
• Operate material-handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, to move and stage shipments safely.
• Coordinate with carriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS, LTL freight) to schedule pickups and ensure timely dispatch.
• Troubleshoot and resolve shipping discrepancies or issues, including damaged goods or missing items.

Documentation and Administration:

• Prepare all necessary shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, and commercial invoices.
• Maintain accurate records of all outgoing shipments, tracking numbers, and shipping costs.
• Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) to process orders, track inventory, and update shipment status.
• Communicate with the customer service and inventory teams to provide shipment updates and resolve any related inquiries.
• Assist in cycle counts and other inventory-related tasks to ensure stock accuracy.

Safety and Equipment Maintenance:

• Enforce and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as OSHA guidelines.
• Conduct daily inspections of equipment and the work area to ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to management promptly.
• Manage and reorder shipping supplies to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience (3-5 years preferred) in a warehouse or fulfillment environment, with prior leadership or supervisory experience.
• Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS) and shipping software.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and adapt to changing priorities.
• Capable of heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) and standing for extended periods.
