Role Summary

The Cardiac Device Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive management of patients with cardiac electronic implanted devices (CIEDs). This role involves monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting device data, ensuring timely communication with patients and providers, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards. The specialist serves as a resource for clinical teams, providing education and technical support to optimize patient outcomes and device performance.

Essential Functions

  • Review, triage, and document remote transmissions daily.
  • Notify patients of findings and arrange follow-up as needed.
  • Evaluate stored and real-time EKGs to identify arrhythmias, pacing/sensing issues, and device interventions.
  • Alert designated providers to concerns regarding patient status per approved protocols.
  • Analyze data from CIEDs and communicate findings effectively to physicians and care teams.
  • Maintain accurate, professional documentation in compliance with HIPAA and PHI standards.
  • Stay current with best practices through continuing education.
  • Communicate findings requiring further attention to the responsible MD or NP/PA.
  • Manage patient enrollment, education, scheduling, and maintenance in remote monitoring systems.
  • Assist patients with transmissions and troubleshoot remote monitoring issues.
  • Support scheduling and administrative tasks related to the cardiac device department.
  • Troubleshoot device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.
  • Educate patients on device functionality, remote monitoring, and follow-up protocols.
  • Serve as a resource for providers and staff regarding device patients and services.

Essential Skills and Core Competencies

  • Advanced computer skills, including EMR navigation and Microsoft tools.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiology-specific medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in rhythm analysis and interpretation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for providers and patients.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in nursing, medicine, electronics, engineering, or related health/science field.
  • Preferred: BSN and current RN licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent cardiac device management experience with one of the following certifications:
  • Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS)
  • Cardiac Device Remote Monitoring Specialist (CDRMS)
  • Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS)

OR

  • Completion of ATI training, Cardiac Device Program training (PrepMD), or 3 years of experience in a cardiac/EP device program with above certifications.
  • Preferred certifications: International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) or willingness to obtain within the first year of employment.

Work Environment

In-office clinical role based at the OKC location. Standard office equipment used; occasional travel between clinics for training or support may be required.
