Herons AM Server Assistant

Server assistants in Herons provide polite, professional, fast and courteous service. Essential functions include greeting guests, polishing glasses, pouring water and wine, bussing and resetting tables, and running food.

Job Overview:

• Ready to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed, wearing a clean uniform
• Accurately deliver hot and cold food from kitchen
• Able to answer standard menu knowledge questions and seamlessly accept guest requests
• Assist in the clearing and resetting of tables
• Neatly and effectively polish silverware, glassware, and plateware
• Coordinate tasks with Servers to execute a smooth dining experience for guests
• Prepare espresso beverages and brew coffee
• Display a cordial, accommodating, and hospitable disposition while interacting with guests across the restaurant and hotel
• Additional duties as directed by your manager, including assisting in the overall function of the hotel as necessary

Additional Information for Success:

• Regular attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
• Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
• Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with The Umstead Hotel rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel's facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Physical Requirements:

• Most work tasks are performed indoors though there will be also be restaurant seating as well as cocktail tables outdoors on the terrace.
• May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including excessive heat and cold.
• Physical ability to walk and handle trays, food items, glasses, etc. in a safe and constructive manner for at least 4 hours at a time.
• Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.
• Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
• Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and color vision and depth perception.
• Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.

Qualifications:

High school or equivalent education required

Experience:

Serving experience required; hospitality experience preferred

Licenses or Certificates:

Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits.

Grooming:

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Umstead Hotel standards.
