DescriptionSummary
In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Director of Donation Logistics serves as a key member of the organization's leadership team and contributes to organizational and departmental strategic planning and execution. The incumbent leads the Donation Logistics Center which includes donor referral intake, referral tracking, triage of donors, resource dispatch, clinical case management, and transportation. This role is responsible for the centralized donation logistics function and the coordination and management of all donation logistics, including the ownership of dispatch of Gift of Life personnel into donor hospitals. The Director works strategically to identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, ensures compliance with governing regulations, and fosters collaborative relationships with transplant centers and other key partners to achieve organizational goals.

- As a member of the leadership team, contribute to the development and execution of the organization's strategic plan.
- Develop and execute a strategic vision and plan for assigned area(s) of oversight, in line with the organization's mission and vision. Be accountable for the achievement of the plan and its supporting goals.
- Oversee the operations of assigned department(s), prioritize objectives, and implement strategies to achieve department goals and KPIs.
- Oversee and provide strategic leadership in all clinical activities within donor logistics, including referral intake, triage, resource dispatch, and organ allocation.
- Develop and monitor a working budget for assigned department(s), including the identification of capital and staffing requirements.
- Develop and implement logistics strategies for movement of people and resources, aligning with organizational goals.
- Effectively plan, execute, and optimize the movement of people to meet the needs of organ, tissue, and eye referrals across the designated service area.
- Champion inter- and cross-department changes focused on innovation, gaining efficiency, and increasing productivity in support of the organization's mission.
- Participate in assigned internal committees, work groups, and project teams as appropriate.
- Represent Gift of Life through attendance at conferences and participation in local and national organizations and committees.
- Participate in peer-to-peer collaboration with other organ procurement organizations, tissue banks, regulatory agencies, and partners for best practice sharing and learning.
- Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for assigned area(s) of oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Direct and oversee the day-to-day work of assigned direct reports, set and communicate clear expectations, and provide coaching/guidance, as necessary.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback, conducting performance reviews and/or corrective action discussions, as necessary.
- Support staff in setting performance goals and in furthering their professional development.
- Work with Human Resources to hire new employees and determine compensation levels for all assigned direct reports.
- Support and contribute to the achievement of organizational and department goals.
- Support the bi-directional communication of organizational and department messaging between leadership and staff.
- Promote a healthy and safe work environment.
- Manage other tasks required by supervisors such as time and attendance, staff change requests, and reporting.
Education and/or Experience
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field plus seven years of progressively responsible experience in a related position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.
- Experience establishing department and/or team strategies and goals.
- At least four years' experience in management and/or leadership roles (project, team, workgroup).
- Master's degree in logistics, healthcare, or a related field.
- Degree, certification, or experience in logistics.
- Experience in call management, referral coordination, dispatch, and triage activities.
- Experience leading and successfully completing large scope projects.
- Ability to oversee a successful team and promote a positive, inclusive, and motivated work environment.
- Ability to develop strategies and implement supporting initiatives.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple competing priorities.
- Understanding of regulations and best practices related to areas of responsibility.
- Written and verbal fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, specifically in challenging situations to all levels of the organization.
- Excellent presentation skills to audiences of varying backgrounds and sizes.
