Deputy Director

The Clean Power PA Coalition seeks a full-time Deputy Director to help lead our statewide coalition in advocating for ambitious, equitable clean energy policies and to hold polluting industries accountable in the Commonwealth.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to foster coordination and cooperation amongst a diverse set of grassroots and advocacy organizations. They will be committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment. The Deputy will work closely with the PA State Director to provide strategic and grant support to a growing coalition of climate, faith, and environmental justice advocates to bring equitable climate policies to Pennsylvania. This position is an excellent opportunity to be at the forefront of climate policy across the energy, transportation, and buildings sectors.
Job Responsibilities:
Campaign Leadership & Strategy
- Support the development and implementation of state clean energy and climate policy objectives.
- Serve as primary point-of-contact and lead coordinator for campaigns.
- Work with the State Director to develop an annual state plan including organizing annual in-person coalition convening.
- Monitor public releases and announcements from all relevant federal and state government offices and agencies.
- Diligently follow current events and news related to state clean energy and climate policy priorities.
Project & Team Management
- Provide project management, tracking and reporting, and research support for campaigns.
- Support the State Director in managing and ensuring high-quality deliverables from the consulting team.
- Proactively manage work product and project portfolio, provide ongoing reports, and maintain solutions-oriented approach to daily and weekly priorities.
- Work with the State Director to monitor and ensure timely submission of all client reporting systems and structures.
Coalition & Stakeholder Engagement
- Facilitate meetings, materials, and logistics for convening grantees and consultants to ensure a cohesive effort to pursue and achieve shared goals, strategies, and targets.
- Foster collaborative relationships with grantee partners to advance shared goals and strategies
Government Relations & Policy
- Support Government Relations lead by providing additional capacity and expertise to organize briefings and meetings, monitoring state legislature activity, and coordinating government relations tactics.
Communications & Messaging Strategy
- Support the Communications lead by contributing to development of strategic communications and messaging aligned with policy goals and campaigns.
- Advise on development and coordination of communications tactics.
Grantmaking & Capacity Building
- Work with the State Director to deploy resources to organizations, including grantmaking and coordination with communications and government relations teams.
- Work with the State Director and Steering Committee to develop and utilize impact measurement tools and capacity building initiatives.
Qualifications:
We're seeking candidates who have a background in climate, decarbonization, and/or clean energy policy background, excel in relationship building, are results-oriented and have strong project management skills. You should have:
- Worked in a role involving regulatory, legislative, or administrative policymaking.
- Demonstrated experience understanding, analyzing, and communicating complex policies and implications for impacted stakeholders and communities.
- A track record of developing and maintaining authentic working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Experience managing multiple projects and overseeing cross-functional teams of consultants, grantees, and advocates.
- Demonstrated aptitude for managing staff, projects, or budgets.
- Deep commitment to equity, with experience working directly with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities, and centering impacted voices in policy development.
- Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
- Comfort leading virtual meetings including developing effective and accessible agendas and ensuring thorough follow-up.
- Familiarity with Pennsylvania's government, legislative, and political environment.
- Prior experience in issue advocacy, political campaigns, grassroots organizing, or government is preferred.

Compensation:
This is a contractor position and not a salaried role with Viewpoint Public Affairs. Compensation will be invoiced monthly at a rate of $90,000 annually plus a stipend for health insurance. The average commitment is 30-35 hours/week. This is a remote position with occasional in-state travel for coalition meetings and events..
