Job Summary

Under the general supervision, provides support to the Department of Political Science around clerical assistance to faculty, Graduate Advisor, and Department Chair. Works with Moot Court and Model United Nations programs as well as Undergraduate Advisor in  an office of approximately 47 academic employees, 13 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 2 FERP Faculty members, 17 Lecturers, and 15 Graduate Assistants; serves as the one of two resources for information regarding Department and Program policy and practice for faculty, students, and staff providing continuity in policy and procedure; maintains Department and budget and records; and completes faculty and staff hiring.


Key Responsibilities
  • Receives visitors and telephone calls for Department.  Provides information as appropriate directs inquires.  Maintains appearance of offices and posted materials.
  • Compiles and reproduces instructional materials, correspondence, minutes, reports and forms.  Tracks dispositions of correspondence, expenditures, and forms.
  • Assists with technical duties for Moot Court, Model United Nations, Legal Studies and Undergraduate/Graduate Advisors.
  • Serves as department mail clerk and maintains office and photocopier supplies.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,565 (Step #1) - $5,092 (Step #19) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people – faculty, staff, students, and vendors.  Working knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices relating to an academic environment.  Ability to perform moderate clerical tasks involving independent judgment, accuracy, and speed.   Working knowledge of Windows, Word, e-mail, spreadsheet, databases, webpages, and Peoplesoft. Working knowledge of written and oral communication skills.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."


Education and Experience


•Equivalent to 3 years of administrative support experience required.


•Bachelor's degree preferred.


•Academic Department experience preferred.

Physical Summary

Sedentary work- Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).
