Job Overview

The Core Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing high-quality clinical testing within the Core (Blood) Laboratory, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and compliance with CLIA and CAP standards. This role involves conducting routine and specialized laboratory analyses, maintaining instruments, performing quality control and calibration, and verifying test results prior to release. The Core Laboratory Scientist also supports reference lab processing, manages reagent inventory, and upholds all safety and infection control protocols.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory excellence. This position plays a key role in ensuring timely, accurate diagnostic results that support exceptional patient care.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Enter laboratory orders into the LIS system or retrieve orders from the EMR system.

· Perform clinical testing and accurately record results for all assigned laboratory areas.

· Process reference lab send-outs and verify that results are received and correctly recorded.

· Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure testing meets performance criteria.

· Verify that patient test results are not reported unless all performance specifications are acceptable.

· Perform proficiency testing or split-sample comparisons as required.

· Maintain reagent and consumable inventory in an organized, acceptable manner.

· Operate and maintain assigned instruments per training and manufacturer guidelines.

· Conduct and document quality control (QC) testing; identify deviations and implement corrective actions as needed.

· Verify that all QC and calibration criteria are met prior to releasing patient results.

· Perform scheduled instrument maintenance (weekly, monthly) and document completion.

· Implement corrective or remedial actions when test systems deviate from expected performance.

· Participate in continuing education and in-service programs to maintain technical competency.

· Maintain personal licensure and certifications as applicable to state and federal requirements.

· Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, and biohazard policies.

· Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director or designee.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemistry, biology, or related field.

· Experience in hematology, chemistry, or immunoassay testing preferred.

· Knowledge of CLIA regulations and CAP standards for moderate and waived complexity testing.

· Competency with LIS/EMR systems and laboratory instrumentation.

· Detail-oriented with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $25.00 per hour
