- Summary:*The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs is responsible for supporting the Dean of Student Affairs in the development, implementation, and management of student services programs that foster student success, engagement, and retention. This position will oversee various student affairs initiatives, providing leadership to student support services, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and community partners to enhance the overall student experience.
Year One Critical Success Factors
- Have a thorough knowledge of the Care Team, care and conduct referral and response process, and the Student Code of Conduct to serve as the primary conduct officer.
- Collaborate with the appropriate departments to review the student onboarding process and revitalize the new student orientation program.
- Oversee the assessment of the student leadership program and make recommendations for improvement
- Establish new community partners to support the food pantry and other basic needs initiatives
- Travel Requirements:*Limited local travel on occasion. Must have ready access to transportation.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *
- Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services aimed at enhancing student engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
- Oversee the Care Team and student conduct process. Convene bi-weekly meetings and ad hoc meetings as needed. Maintain the student reporting software (Maxient) to monitor behavioral and disciplinary referrals.
- Oversee the update of the Care Team response manual that includes protocols, procedures, and the NABITA Threat Assessment Rubric. Provide training for faculty, staff, and students on the use and purpose of the Care Team and the student reporting system.
- Assign referrals to Care Team members for follow-up. Collaborate with various departments and student service areas on individual action and support plans for students of concern as needed. Meet with students individually to follow up on conduct issues or behavioral concerns. Manage student referrals to college and community agencies and resources as needed.
- Assist the Dean in administering student disciplinary sanctions in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
- Collaborate with Campus Safety and Security in managing student conduct issues. Attend regular meetings with campus security staff.
- Oversee the Student Life area which includes new student orientation, co-curricular activities, clubs and organizations, fitness center, and food pantry. Hire, train, and supervise department personnel. Conduct annual appraisals of staff as required.
- Supervise the Director of Student Life and oversee the budget. Conduct an assessment of programs and events to determine programming needs of students. Implement student learning outcomes for extra-curricular activities hosted in the in the Student Life area. Make recommendations for program improvements including student utilization of activities. Collect and analyze data related to student engagement, retention, and success, using findings to inform program development and improvement.
- Oversee the development of a student leadership program that enhances the co-curricular experience of student clubs and organizations.
- Approve administrative contracts and payroll for club advisors. Review club advisor end of semester reports and approve for payment.
- Provide oversight of the Food Pantry. Hire and train staff that can provide case management to students. Oversee community partnerships with food supplies and other agencies that can provide support to students. Explore new partnerships that can provide necessary support to students. Supervise all food pantry staff.
- Ensure that the College is in compliance with HEOA which includes updating the Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and other policies that fall under the Student Affairs area.
- Assist the Dean in planning, coordinating, and overseeing of the annual commencement ceremony and the working groups that support the event.

- Supervisory Responsibilities:*Directly supervise full-time, regular part-time and other part-time employees assigned to the position. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with College policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, and taking corrective action with employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required
*Education and/or Experience:*
- Master's Degree in higher education or a related field
- Minimum of three years experience in an area of Student Affairs in a higher education setting
Preferred
- Community College experience
- Supervisory experience
- Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* 1. Self-motivated
- Ability to function productively and independently
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish positive working relationships
- Excellent leadership/management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with members of the executive team, senior management team and other segments of the College community
- Computer Skills:*To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet skills. Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague or other administrative software a plus.
- Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: *None
- Communication Skills: *Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Reasoning Ability: *Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.
- Mathematical Skills: *Ability to work with mathematical concepts and create and manage budgets. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
