ARTS EDUCATOR
The Watermill Center seeks a passionate and dynamic
Part-Time Arts Educator
to support its growing education and public programs. This role involves facilitating arts-based workshops in local schools, participating in educational events both on-site and off-site, leading interactive tours of The Watermill Center and its exhibitions, and supporting administrative tasks as needed.
This temporary position is funded for the school year (September through June) with the possibility of continuing beyond that time, pending further funding.
About the Watermill Center
The Watermill Center is a laboratory for the arts and humanities, providing a global community the time, space, and freedom to create and inspire.
Founded in 1992 by Robert Wilson, The Watermill Center is an interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts and humanities situated on ten acres of Shinnecock ancestral territory on Long Island's East End. With an emphasis on creativity and collaboration, Watermill offers artist residencies and education programs that integrate contemporary artistic practice with humanities resources and sciences research.

Schedule
Part-time role; approximately 10–20 hours per week for the duration of the school year (Now through June). Position may continue beyond that timeframe pending funding. Schedule to be formalized with the Education Manager. Hybrid schedule possible.
Compensation
$25 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate arts education workshops and programs in collaboration with local schools and community partners
- Assist in developing educational content and lesson plans that align with Watermill's mission and exhibitions
- Lead engaging and age-appropriate tours of The Watermill Center, including its grounds and galleries
- Serve as a cultural ambassador for The Watermill Center within the East End community
- Maintain attendance records and assist with program evaluation and reporting
- Support education, public programs, and special events as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years experience in arts education, museum education, or a related field
- Strong communication and public speaking skills, especially with youth audiences
- Familiarity with contemporary and interdisciplinary art practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse communities
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to local schools and community sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish language skills a plus
- Experience working with bilingual learners or individuals with special needs
- Experience in K-12 classrooms
- Experience in expressive arts, healing arts, art therapy, etc.
- Knowledge of the East End's cultural landscape a plus
