Part-Time Chess Coach Position

About Us

We are a top enrichment provider in Seattle, WA providing high-quality programs that benefit our students for a lifetime. We are seeking enthusiastic and engaging Chess Coaches to lead after-school chess clubs for elementary school students throughout the Seattle area. Our program focuses on introducing young students to the joy of chess while developing critical thinking, focus, and social skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Position Overview

As a Chess Coach, you will facilitate engaging, age-appropriate chess instruction for elementary school students in after-school chess clubs. This role emphasizes strong classroom management and teaching abilities, with a focus on making chess accessible and enjoyable for young learners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead after-school chess clubs at elementary schools around Seattle
  • Teach chess fundamentals to students in a fun, engaging manner
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively in an after-school setting
  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment for all students
  • Track student progress and provide appropriate challenges
  • Set up and maintain chess equipment
  • Communicate with school staff and parents as needed
  • Follow school protocols and safety procedures

Schedule

  • Part-time position (approximately 5-10 hours per week)
  • Chess clubs typically run Monday through Friday
  • Club sessions are approximately one hour with start/end time varying between 2:30-3:30 and 4:30-5:30
  • Schedule based on available opportunities

Qualifications Required

  • Reliable, professional and well-spoken
  • Intermediate chess knowledge and playing ability online or over-the-board rating)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children
  • Must be local to Seattle, WA with reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred

  • Teaching experience (formal or informal)
  • Excellent classroom management
  • Experience leading children's activities or programs
  • Background in education, child development, or related fields

Compensation

  • $100 per hour for independent coaching
  • $35 per hour while training
