CyberStorm Defense is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer (NAS Modernization) to support upcoming modernization and sustainment initiatives for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the Department of Transportation (DOT).

This position plays a central role in the FAA's NextGen and National Airspace System (NAS) transformation efforts — supporting engineering, integration, and lifecycle modernization across major systems including ERAM, STARS, SWIM, TFDM, and AIMM.

The Systems Engineer will ensure compliance with FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS) policies, Systems Engineering Integration (SEI) standards, and DOT enterprise engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide systems engineering, integration, and configuration management support for NAS modernization and sustainment programs.
  • Conduct requirements definition, functional analysis, and system design in compliance with FAA AMS lifecycle phases.
  • Develop and maintain system and interface documentation (ICDs, SDDs, SRDs) in accordance with FAA standards.
  • Support FAA design and readiness reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and associated verification/validation (V&V) activities.
  • Collaborate with FAA PMO (AJM-2 / AJM-3), TechOps (AJW), and safety organizations to ensure integrated, risk-managed technical performance.
  • Conduct trade studies and technical assessments supporting modernization, data integration, and operational improvements.
  • Ensure system compliance with FAA SEI Handbook, AMS Section 4.11, and DOT Systems Engineering Framework.
  • Support integration of cybersecurity, human factors, and safety analysis within the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Prepare technical documentation, impact analyses, and recommendations for FAA and DOT leadership review.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of systems engineering experience supporting FAA NAS, NextGen, or DOT enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with FAA NAS programs such as ERAM, STARS, SWIM, or TFDM.
  • Proficiency in requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama, JIRA) and systems modeling languages (SysML, UML).
  • Proven understanding of the FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS) and Systems Engineering Integration (SEI) policies.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief FAA stakeholders and produce compliant documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting FAA PMO (AJM-1/2/3) or TechOps (AJW) directorates.
  • Familiarity with FAA Safety Management System (SMS) and Risk Management processes (SRM).
  • Knowledge of CNS/ATM integration, air traffic systems, and aviation automation.
  • Certifications: INCOSE CSEP, PMP, ITIL v4, or AWS/Azure cloud certifications.
  • Prior work with FAA or DOT contractors (e.g., SAIC, LST, Regulus, or Cavan Solutions).
