JOB SUMMARY
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for upholding high standards of food quality and safety, overseeing kitchen staff, managing cost controls, and collaborating with front-of-house management to ensure an exceptional dining experience. The essential job functions include performing the core responsibilities of the role with consistency and reliability. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Hospitality Manager. This is an Unclassified position within the Civil Service of the City of Parma.
WORK ACTIVITIES
- Manages daily kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency and consistency*
- Supervises and coordinates scheduling for all kitchen staff, including cooks, prep staff, and dishwashers*
- Monitors food quality and presentation to maintain consistency with brand standards*
- Coordinates purchasing and inventory management of food, supplies, and equipment*
- Manages food and labor costs to consistently achieve budget goals*
- Provides training, guidance, and conducts performance evaluations for all kitchen staff*
- Maintains strict compliance with health and safety regulations in all aspects of food preparation and storage*
- Ensures the kitchen remains clean, orderly, and compliant with safety standards*
- Collaborates with the Hospitality Manager/Kitchen Manager on menu planning and seasonal updates*
- Develops and maintains procedures for portion control, waste reduction, and cost optimization*
- Promptly and professionally addresses and resolves kitchen-related issues*
- Performs opening and closing duties as assigned+

JOB CONTEXT
The Kitchen Manager generally works between 25 to 29 hours a week and must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. This position is part-time with hours varying based on operational needs. Regular and consistent on-site attendance is an essential job function. Mobility throughout the event center is required. The incumbent must be able to stand for extended periods and lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. While the Kitchen Manager primarily works in a temperature-controlled kitchen, the role may also require working in hot, humid, fast-paced environments, including occasional outdoor settings. The incumbent will operate food service equipment, which requires manual dexterity for handling cleaning equipment and supplies. The incumbent is evaluated annually by the Hospitality Manager.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Upon hire, a Kitchen Manager must have:
· A high school diploma or equivalent; culinary degree or certification (Preferred)
· Minimum of three to five years of kitchen experience, including one to two years in a supervisory role
· Strong understanding of commercial kitchen operations, food safety standards, and health codes
· Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-pressure environment
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
· Strong knowledge of inventory control, purchasing, and cost management
· Proficient in kitchen and back-of-house management software
· ServSafe Certification or equivalent food handler's certification (Required)
After hire, a Kitchen Manager must have:
· Familiarity with sanitation regulations and guidelines
· Knowledge of food handling and refrigeration methods
· The ability and willingness to comply with sanitation guidelines

The hourly pay range for the position of Kitchen Manager is $22.00 to $25.00 based on experience. The City of Parma is an equal opportunity employer. The new hire probationary period is one year.
