The Women's Safe House (TWSH) is the oldest and largest provider of emergency services to women and children experiencing domestic violence. We also work with women and families experiencing sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. TWSH is a 24-hour facility. We are an active member of the State of Missouri and National Coalitions Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
This is a PRN position, meaning your employment will be on an as-needed basis. You are required to be available for open shifts and should have the flexibility to work as needed. In this role, it is critical that you maintain regular availability and commit to not calling off without valid reasons, as consistency and reliability are essential to providing quality service to our residents and supporting our team. Candidates should be flexible, with availability to cover at least five (5) open shifts per month. Shifts are 10-hours and include the following: 7am - 5pm, 9am - 7pm, 5pm - 3am, 7pm - 5am, and 11pm - 9am.
Description of Duties:
· Answers the Crisis Intervention Hotline; provides services including, but not limited to: Compassionate and Trauma-Informed Listening and Communication; Establishing Rapport; Assessment of Danger/Risk and Needs; Validating Feelings; Providing Support, Safety Planning, and Referrals (e.g., Medical, Mental Health, Legal Remedies, etc.)
· Coordinates and re-evaluates services, along with the Director of Residential Services, to ensure that the provision of services complies with the organization's policies, procedures and practices. Makes recommendations for changes as necessary.
· Handles data reporting collection and quality assurance pieces in accordance with applicable laws, funding requirements and TWSH's Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs).
· Ensures adequate coverage of the Crisis Intervention Hotline during shifts.
· Collects data as required from Vela (a complete client database and reporting solution for domestic and sexual assault agencies), Telephone Logs, etc. Logs All phone calls into Vela.
· Assists in ensuring that data is accurately reported in Vela and data is available to send from Vela to MCADSV, United Way, Department of Public Safety and other state and local funders.
· As a primary service provider during the shift, provides trauma-informed personal advocacy and support to callers and residents.
· Works alongside Case Management staff (e.g., Residential, Aftercare, and LPC) and other TWSH team members in accordance with "The Women's Safe House (TWSH) Provision of Services Flow Chart."
· Monitors the shelter for safety.
· Follows quality assurance standards and recommendations.
· Clean rooms and pack resident's belongings as needed.
· Assists with chores and general building cleaning including, but not limited to, sterilizing of community spaces, all water coolers during each shift, cleaning and maintaining utility, linen and other closets, and handling the disposal of items left behind by residents already exited from shelter.
· Assist in the care and maintenance of the shelter.
· Assist in shelter operations as requested by management
· Complete shelter intake, orientation, and other related forms as required on all shifts;log them into Vela;
· Provide/arrange transportation for clients who are appropriate for shelter
· Ensure client confidentiality as outlined in confidentiality policy
· Assists in monitoring Crisis Intervention Hotline and Orientation processes and activities including those documented by TWSH staff and volunteers. Reports progress to the Director of Residential Services as needed.
· Collects National Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) and other surveys at regular intervals as needed.
· Regularly attends meetings with partners and attends community meetings and events as needed.
· Assists in developing protocol for those victims needing assistance but not needing shelter.
· Provides other direct services to program participants as scheduled and necessary which includes assisting with childcare.
· Attends scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
· Assists in the training of volunteers, practicum students and new staff as assigned.
· Perform other duties related to supporting participants and their dependent children in a trauma informed manner as assigned.
Requirements and Skills:
· High School Diploma
· Preferred knowledge of domestic violence and the empowerment of individuals.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and General Data Processing Programs.
· Direct services, advocacy, and crisis intervention experience.
· Public speaking and writing skills.
· Must have own reliable transportation, valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Demonstrate the ability to work well with people of various ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
· Strong ability to build interpersonal relationships and effectively communicate across teams.
· Must adhere to TWSH policies, procedures, and standards including, but not limited to, confidentiality assisting victims of crime and similar practices.
· A deep appreciation and understanding of the issues of trauma and domestic violence.
· Willingness and ability to convey warmth, compassion, respect and non judgment to people experiencing domestic violence.
· Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures and practices.
Working and Physical Conditions:
· This position will work within an organization serving women and children residing in a domestic violence shelter (confidential location).
· Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
