Stamford, Connecticut, United States Bavana Partners Full time

Our client is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their growing legal team and provide strategic legal support across their portfolio of C&I solar and energy storage projects. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role will be instrumental in guiding projects from origination and contracting through financing, construction, and operation.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in renewable energy development, particularly within the distributed generation and C&I solar space, and possess the ability to balance legal precision with commercial pragmatism. This is a hands-on, business-facing role suited for an attorney who thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and enjoys collaborating cross-functionally to drive projects to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage legal support across C&I solar and battery storage projects, providing guidance from site acquisition through construction and operation.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial and project-related contracts, including EPC agreements, O&M agreements, power purchase agreements (PPAs), equipment supply contracts, and offtake or lease agreements.
  • Advise on project financing transactions, including debt and tax equity structures, and assist in coordinating due diligence and documentation for project funding.
  • Support M&A and portfolio transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams in development, engineering, finance, construction, and operations to ensure projects move efficiently through each stage of development.
  • Provide risk management and compliance oversight, ensuring all activities align with corporate governance, regulatory standards, and internal policies.
  • Manage outside counsel effectively, ensuring high-quality, cost-efficient legal support across transactional and regulatory matters.
  • Advise on regulatory, real estate, and interconnection issues relevant to distributed generation and C&I project development.
  • Contribute proactively to process improvement and standardization of contract templates, playbooks, and negotiation strategies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school; active license and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 7+ years of relevant legal experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, or real estate transactions. C&I or distributed generation experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating EPC, PPA, and equipment supply agreements.
  • Strong understanding of project finance, site control, permitting, and interconnection processes.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with internal business teams and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently and prioritize in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support closings, site visits, and key meetings.
