Histotechnologist / Mohs Technician in high complexity lab

Position Summary:
The Mohs Technician performs all technical and laboratory duties related to the preparation,
processing, and staining of tissue specimens for Mohs micrographic surgery in a high-
complexity dermatopathology lab. This position supports the Mohs surgeon by ensuring high-
quality frozen sections and accurate mapping for intraoperative evaluation.

Department: Mohs Micrographic Surgery / Laboratory
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, embed, and section tissue specimens using a cryostat for immediate microscopic
examination.
Stain slides (e.g., hematoxylin and eosin or toluidine blue) for intraoperative frozen
section interpretation.
Accurately map and label tissue blocks and slides to correspond with surgical diagrams.
Maintain equipment and perform quality control procedures per CLIA and CAP
regulations for a high-complexity laboratory.
Log specimens, verify patient identifiers, and ensure accurate documentation.
Manage inventory of laboratory supplies, stains, and reagents.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain cryostats, staining equipment, and laboratory workspace.
Comply with infection control, safety, and hazardous waste disposal standards.
Participate in proficiency testing, QA/QC programs, and continuing education as required
by CLIA regulations.
Provide technical support to the Mohs surgeon during surgery as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology
(required).
Experience:
o Minimum 1 year of Mohs histotechnology or histology experience preferred.
o Familiarity with CLIA/CAP regulations and laboratory safety practices.
Certifications:
o ASCP certification (HT or HTL) preferred but not required.
Skills:
o Excellent attention to detail and fine motor dexterity.
o Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
o Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.
