Description Of Work
This is a Senior Assistant Resident Engineer position in the Winston Salem Construction 2 Resident Engineer's Office. This is an Engineer II position that will be responsible for consultation, investigation, evaluation and planning, design, design review and approval, and/or determination of environmental and safety impacts of work processes and products (buildings, utilities, systems, sites, mapping, or infrastructures).This position will provide project management oversight, which may include supervision of lower level technical and professional staff. Oversee or review environmental, infrastructure and geomatic projects and manage implementation of projects/plans according to codes and regulations, to include approval authority. Work assignments may involve unique factors that may be technically complex or have a high number of variables and inter-related considerations. Work is often performed independently requiring professional knowledge of complex and/or detailed technical procedures. Work may require considerable public contact to explain standards and regulations, or to appear before a regulatory/judicial body and provide consultation and technical assistance. Additional duties will include negotiation to determine the feasibility of project implementation or continuation, exercising judgment and decision-making that directly impacts life, health, safety and/or the environment. The selected applicant will be expected to develop and manage program/project plans. This Position will provide consultation on issues and requests from clients and/or higher-level professionals to discuss alternative solutions and may supervise/mentor staff.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC 18 / $61, $107,703.00

Management Prefers Applicants With The Following

• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects, independently or with limited supervision
• Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining engineering concepts to various customer groups.
• Strong knowledge of principles of civil engineering as it relates to the design, construction, and maintenance of the highway system.
• Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex projects
• Experience leading multiple projects and scheduling and directing multiple work crews.

Additional Expectations
Ability to work safely in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity, including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. The selected applicant may be required to work at night, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours as required to resolve project issues. Must be able to legally drive a state vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required for this position.

Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
