Junior Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/ObjectiveThe Junior Engineer will assist in overseeing planning level engineering to construction level engineering for sanitary board and stormwater utility capital projects, as well as other sewer and stormwater projects, reports, studies and initiatives.

Essential Functions

1. Provide general support to the engineering department

2. Provide guidance and technical expertise to management and staff

3. Ensures compliance with applicable company and client quality requirements in all assigned programs, functions, products, and areas

4. Coordinates data for impervious surface integration to billing database

5. Promotes courtesy and professionalism throughout the City of Huntington

Competencies

1. Knowledge of the principles, practices, management, and planning in the field of civil engineering and sewer and stormwater systems

2. Experience in managing projects and working with engineering consultants.

3. Ability to communicate effectively with team members

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Employee may be exposed to all types of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Employee will be exposed to raw sewage, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, hear, read and write. The employee frequently must be able to manipulate writing instruments, a keyboard and mouse. The employee is occasionally required to drive; climb stairs; walk on uneven surfaces; climb or balance; bend or reach; touch and smell. The employee occasionally is required to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Schedule

This is a full-time position. Primary days of work are Monday through Friday. Must be available for 24-hour callout.

Travel

Frequent local travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

Preferred Education and Experience

Familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and sanitary sewer and stormwater computer programs.

Passed NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and has applied for/received Engineer Intern Certification by WV State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Valid driver's license
