Purchasing Specialist (Clerk)
Location: College Station, TX
Department: Supply Chain
Reports To: Purchasing Manager (Buyer)
Position Summary
The Purchasing Clerk is responsible for supporting procurement activities to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, components, and services required for solar module manufacturing. This role involves maintaining accurate records, processing purchase orders, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Purchase Order Management:
- Prepare, review, and process purchase orders for raw materials, components, and consumables.
- Verify pricing, quantities, and delivery schedules.
Supplier Coordination:
- Communicate with vendors to confirm order details, resolve discrepancies, and track shipments.
- Assist in maintaining positive supplier relationships and ensuring timely deliveries.
Inventory & Documentation:
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehouse and production teams to avoid shortages.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation in ERP systems.
Compliance & Quality:
- Ensure all purchases comply with company standards, specifications, and sustainability requirements.
- Support audits and reporting for procurement activities.
Cost Control:
Assist in obtaining quotes and comparing pricing to support cost-saving initiatives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in Business or Supply Chain preferred.
- 1–2 years in purchasing or clerical roles, preferably in manufacturing.
- Familiarity with solar or electronics industry is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
Working Conditions
- Office environment with occasional visits to production floor.
- Standard business hours; overtime may be required during peak periods.
