Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Inc. (PHW) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service members and Veterans through fly fishing and related activities. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for these heroes by offering a variety of therapeutic activities, including fly fishing, fly tying, and rod building. At PHW, we aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment that helps Veterans find healing, camaraderie, and a renewed sense of purpose.
SUMMARY
The Development Associate will support the organization's fundraising efforts, donor relations, and event planning including organizing events, supporting communications, and assisting with donor stewardship activities. This role provides essential support to our fundraising and donor relations efforts, helping to ensure the continued success and growth of our programs for Veterans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Donor Management
- Ensure accurate and complete record keeping and maintenance of PHW's donor database.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of donations and donor information.
- Provide accurate and timely donor, gift and analytical reports from the donor database.
- Prepare gift acknowledgment letters and other donor correspondence.
- Assist with donor stewardship activities and assist with conducting research to identify prospective donors.
Fundraising & Event Support
- Assist in the preparation of fundraising materials, including brochures, newsletters, and digital content.
- Coordinate logistics for fundraising events, managing RSVPs, and coordinating volunteers.
- Create and manage online giving pages.
- Contribute to post-event evaluation and reporting.
- Help coordinate outreach efforts to engage new supporters, volunteers, and community members.
- Represent PHW at community events.
Grants and Volunteer/Program Fundraising Support
- Assist in researching potential grant opportunities.
- Ensure accurate recording/tracking of grant activities in the donor database,
- Maintain a schedule of grant deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
- Receive and process Fundraising Support Requests.
- Represent PHW at Program events.
Administrative Support
- Provide general administrative support to the Development team.
- Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and taking minutes.
- Handle inquiries from donors and the general public in a professional and timely manner.
- Support the preparation and submission of state solicitation registrations and reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Passion for Service:
- A deep commitment to supporting Veterans and understanding of the challenges they face.
- Prior military experience or a background in working with Veterans is highly valued.
- Exhibits the highest standards of honesty and integrity.
Strong Communication/Customer Service Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Effective presentation skills; Ability to articulate the strategic vision of PHW.
- Able to engage with a high level of professionalism with a variety of stakeholders, including staff, Veterans, volunteers, and community partners.
- Self-motivated, collaborative team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
Organizational Skills:
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and use program evaluation tools.
Outdoor Enthusiast:
- While not required, a love for fly fishing or the outdoors is preferred.
Tech-Savvy:
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant office software is required.
- Familiarity with donor management software (e.g., Salesforce) and other fundraising technology platforms is preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in related field and 1+ year experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience with veteran organizations, non-profit or outdoor recreation is preferred.
