Design Coordinator/Project Assistant

AVM Group is seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Design Coordinator / Project Assistant to play a key role in the successful execution of our specialty construction projects, including cleanrooms, dryrooms, radiation shielding vaults, and specialized doors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of construction principles, excellent organizational skills, and a demonstrated expertise in Autodesk Revit for project design coordination and drawing management. This role will involve actively utilizing Revit to support Project Managers in all phases of project delivery, from pre-construction through closeout, with a focus on ensuring design accuracy, constructability, and seamless coordination between disciplines. The candidate must be a proactive individual with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and teamwork within a digital environment.
Responsibilities
Pre-Construction Support:
- Thoroughly review project plans, specifications, and Revit models to gain a comprehensive understanding of project requirements and design intent.
- Assist in the development of project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
- Prepare and track submittals, RFI's (Requests for Information), and other project-related documentation, with a focus on digital documentation management.
- Assist in the coordination of pre-construction meetings and site investigations, providing Revit model-based insights where applicable.
- Research and analyze technical data and vendor information, integrating relevant details into the Revit model.
- Lead the review and analysis of project Revit models for constructability, spatial coordination, and potential interferences.
- Assist in the development of Revit models, families, details,and content as required for project visualization and coordination.
- Project Execution Support:
- Work closely with the Project Manager in the day-to-day management of projects, leveraging Revit for design-related tasks.
- Track project progress and identify potential deviations from the schedule or budget, utilizing BIM data for progress monitoring.
- Facilitate the coordination of subcontractors and suppliers through clear communication supported by Revit models and drawings.
- Conduct in-depth reviews of shop drawings within Revit, ensuring accurate representation of design intent, compliance with project specifications, and clash detection.
- Prepare and distribute project status reports, potentially including model-based visualizations.
- Assist in the management of change orders and their impact on the project, updating the Revit model accordingly.
- Assist in the management of RFIs and associated responses, utilizing Revit to provide supplemental details and sketches for added clarity.
- Monitor on-site construction activities to ensure adherence to Revit-based plans and specifications.
- Coordinate and manage the exchange of Revit models and related digital information with external stakeholders.
- Track and update as-built conditions within the Revit model.
- Technical Support & Problem Solving:
- Provide technical support to the project team and field personnel, often utilizing Revit for spatial analysis and problem visualization.
- Assist in the investigation and resolution of project issues and discrepancies, leveraging Revit models to identify root causes and potential solutions.
- Research and recommend solutions to technical challenges, potentially developing visual aids and solutions within Revit.
- Quality Control & Documentation:
- Assist in the implementation and enforcement of quality control procedures, utilizing Revit models for verification and clash avoidance.
- Maintain organized and accurate project files and documentation within a digital environment, including Revit project files and associated data.
- Lead the preparation of as-built drawings and project closeout documents using Revit. Specialized Project Knowledge:
- Develop a strong understanding of the specific technical requirements for cleanroom, dryroom, and radiation shielding vault construction, represented and coordinated within Revit.
- Learn about relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 14644 for cleanrooms) and building codes, ensuring compliance within the Revit models.
- Lead the coordination with specialized vendors, focusing on the integration of their models and data within the overall Revit environment.
- Utilize advanced Revit skills to understand and communicate complex spatial relationships, system integrations, and constructability within specialty construction.
- Safety:
- Promote and support a safe work environment, utilizing Revit models for safety planning and visualization.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with all company and job site safety regulations.
This role is local to Cleveland, with rare overnight travel to support National Projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related), or a relevant technical field.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and Revit models.
- Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Autodesk Build, Microsoft Project).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk Revit is required, including model navigation, clash detection, and drawing production.
- Basic understanding of other CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, Solidworks) is a plus.
Other Skills:
Excellent organizational and time management skills within a digital workflow. ○ Strong attention to detail and accuracy in digital models and documentation. ○ Effective communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in a virtual collaboration environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a BIM framework. ○ Problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on digital solutions.
