Position Summary

We are seeking an HR Specialist with autism-specific experience who will support HR operations, recruitment, on boarding, and training-with a focus on nurturing an inclusive environment that understands and accommodates the needs of neurodivergent staff and the unique culture of an autism-focused organization.

Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Onboarding

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment (sourcing, interviewing, reference checks).
  • Develop structured, accessible onboarding processes that align with neurodiverse needs and support consistent learning.
  • Provide orientation to new staff, introducing them to our mission, programs (ABA, Speech, OT), and values.
  • Collaborate with program leads to ensure new hires receive clear, supportive training pathways and understand expectations.

Autism-Inclusive HR Support

  • Adapt HR materials- training guides, communication tools, performance reviews — for clarity, structure, and accessibility (mindful of neurodiverse communication/learning styles).
  • Support supervisors/managers in using effective communication strategies with neurodiverse employees, including accommodations when needed.
  • Serve as an internal resource for reasonable accommodations and ADA-compliant processes.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Handle employee relations: coaching, conflict resolution, performance conversations, and documentation.
  • Support formal HR processes (discipline, performance management, terminations) when necessary, ensuring fairness and respect.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, and consistent delivery of required labor notices and documentation.

Training & Development

  • Help coordinate or deliver training relevant to working in an autism-centric therapy environment (e.g. neurodiversity awareness, communication, team collaboration, caregiver-family dynamics).
  • Partner with program leads to support ongoing staff development, competency-building and professional growth.

Culture & Engagement

  • Support initiatives to foster a supportive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Assist with staff engagement efforts, team-building, recognition of contributions, and staff retention strategies.

HR Operations & Administrative Support

  • Support HR administrative tasks: record-keeping, benefits coordination (as applicable), onboarding paperwork, compliance documentation.
  • Ensure confidentiality, professionalism, and reliability in all HR processes.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience working directly with individuals on the autism spectrum (in clinical, therapeutic, educational, job-coaching, or related contexts).
  • 2–4+ years of HR-related experience (recruitment, on boarding, employee relations, or administration).
  • Strong understanding of accommodation needs, neurodiversity, and how to support neurodiverse individuals in a workplace context.
  • Excellent communication skills -both verbal and written -with ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Capacity to create structured, predictable HR processes that support consistency and fairness.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in behavioral therapy, autism services, or therapeutic care settings.
  • Experience (or comfort) in supporting staff in child- and family-centered service environments.
  • Training or certification in HR (e.g. SHRM-CP, PHR) or learning/organization development.
  • Experience or willingness to help build inclusion / neurodiversity-friendly workplace culture.
