Position Summary

The Pathologists' Assistant Department in the College of Health Professions at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is seeking to fill a full-time, Director of Clinical Education (DCE) position at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor. Working as a member of our team, the DCE will participate in a variety of activities that sustain the educational mission of the department with an emphasis on education within the clinical environment.

The successful candidate shall demonstrate effective organizational, interpersonal, problem- solving, and advising and mentoring skills; clinical or teaching expertise, and potential to actively contribute to and lead the development of the Pathologists' Assistant Department's clinical education curriculum. In addition, candidates shall embody congruency with the department, college and university missions.  

Applicants should provide a curriculum vitae, letter of interest, statement of teaching philosophy and experience, and the names of three individuals who are familiar with applicant's grossing and teaching abilities that are willing to provide letters of reference.

Faculty and staff are passionate about the Pathologists' Assistant Program's mission to prepare and develop individuals for the professional practice of surgical and autopsy pathology in a continually evolving health care environment. It is the Department's vision to be recognized as the leader in providing graduate-level training in Pathologists' Assistant studies through its outstanding graduates, curricular innovation, scholarly activity, community service, and the leadership it provides to the pathologists' assistant community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach inter and intra-departmental courses, participate in department, college and university committees, serve as a student advisor, be involved in alumni engagement, routinely travel for site visits, recruit and retain quality clinical affiliates and engage in scholarly activity. Additional duties will be assigned to support the department and program as appropriate.

All full-time faculty members employed by RFUMS are expected to engage in activities that are considered core to their primary role as a faculty member. These activities may include teaching, scholarly activity, and service.

Scholarly activities vary and may include:

  • Original scholarship
  • Grant procurement
  • Research mentoring

Service activities vary and may include internal and external contributions through:

  • Recruitment

Scholarly activities and/or clinical activities are negotiated and determined at the department level and are primarily based upon the faculty track.

Conditions of Employment

Required Education & Experience

  • Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program
  • ASCP BOC certified Pathologists' Assistant
  • Experience in interprofessional collaboration

 Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.
  • Computer proficiency in various programs, including Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.) and Google suite (e.g. Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms, etc.).
  • Ability to quickly learn various educational learning management systems.
  • Candidate will possess excellent transferrable skills including but not limited to: critical thinking, time management, written and verbal communication, organization, etc.
  • Outreach service to the public as a steward of the profession and the program
  • Display professionalism, and maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Commitment to working and interacting with diverse populations and be sensitive to cultural differences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in surgical and autopsy pathology as a practicing Pathologists' Assistant
  • Prior academic instruction in anatomic pathology
  • Laboratory Management experience
  • Experience with online educational learning management systems
  • Experience teaching in a laboratory environment to individuals of various learning style

Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Work environments include on-site (classroom/laboratory and office) activities, and remote teaching, which all require extensive use of computer and related technologies. 
  • Additionally, selected candidate must be able to travel to clinical sites by car and air.
