About Us

Heritage Fence builds traditional jackleg and heritage-style fences across SW Montana, using locally sourced timber and time-tested craftsmanship. We take pride in doing things the right way — from responsible timber harvesting to hand-built fence construction that blends naturally into the land. Our projects range from ranch fencing to residential jobs, often in remote and beautiful places throughout Gallatin, Madison, and Paradise Valleys.

Position Summary

We're looking for a hands-on Foreman to lead and work alongside a small crew (1–3 people) in the field. This person will oversee day-to-day jobsite operations, ensure quality craftsmanship, and help keep projects running smoothly and safely. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, dependable, and enjoys working outdoors in all conditions. Some days you'll manage a crew; other days you'll be working solo to keep a project moving forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or work independently on the construction of jackleg and other traditional-style fences
  • Read and interpret project layouts, site plans, and specifications
  • Operate and maintain tools, chainsaws, vehicles, and light equipment
  • Assist with timber harvesting and materials handling
  • Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and efficiency standards
  • Communicate with owners, clients, and crew members clearly and respectfully
  • Track materials, hours, and project progress for reporting
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsit

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in fencing, carpentry, forestry, or related trades
  • Proven ability to lead small crews and work independently
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather and terrain
  • Able to lift up to 100 lbs
  • Valid driver's license, ability to drive to job sites, and experience pulling long trailers with heavy loads (CDL a plus)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Experience operating equipment preferred (e.g., skid steer, tractor, excavator)
