Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) focuses on supporting individual's progress towards goals that are identified as meaningful by individuals and their support resources, and the interdisciplinary care team, as well as provide support for the overall health and safety of all individuals. As part of the nursing team, the CNA will provide direct care to individuals who are receiving crisis stabilization, detox, and clients in need of medical clearance at the CRSC. This includes obtaining vital signs, assisting with facilitating activities of daily living, and performing supportive administrative duties.

  • High School Diploma / GED

Types of Experience

  • 6 months of previous experience performing CNA related services with a preference for experience in behavioral health or emergency room experience.

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • State of Virginia Credential

Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Horizon's quality care standards to ensure service delivery supports Horizon's mission and values.
  • Knowledge of electronic health records and documentation standards as required by the program.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, person-to-person.
  • Ability to implement training programs for the individuals.
  • Safely assist individuals with all aspects of physical management including equipment use, safe lifting and physical assistance.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate a computer, utilize an electronic health record, electronic time sheet, and other software/systems used by Horizon.
  • Able to respond quickly to correct situations deemed to be hazardous, especially to consumers.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize personal protective equipment in a manner that is compliant with standard precautions and safety expectations.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver's license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client @other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
  • Ability to work productively and accomplish program and individual goals with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to record data accurately within established expectations and by communicated deadlines.
  • Ability to locate and interpret facts and make decisions based on established procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
  • Ability to lift and transfer consumers up to an average of 50 to 80 pounds
