Long Beach Day Nursery is currently seeking a full time Cook, join the team for this fantastic opportunity for someone in the food industry. Under the direction of the Associate Center Director, the Cook prepares and delivers healthy meals to the children enrolled at LBDN in accordance with the requirements of the California Adult and Child Food Program and other applicable laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks with correct portion sizes.
  • Prepare, print, and post weekly menus in accordance with assigned regulations.
  • Completes shopping list weekly and reviews with Associate Center Director.
  • Remain with assigned food budget.
  • Follow standardized recipes with correct amount of food.
  • Diligent in review of child allergy list to ensure proper food substitutions are provided for children with allergies.
  • Maintain menu records by recording amount prepared and amount served each day; assist with the completion of appropriate documentation for the food program administration.
  • Prepare and store food in accordance with accepted sanitation procedure; maintain appropriate meal reserves in the freezer.
  • Set food carts, set meals and clean up eating areas for breakfast, noon meal and afternoon snack.
  • Maintain kitchen area to health standards, wash, sanitize and store dishes, tableware, and kitchen utensils.
  • Operate and clean all kitchen equipment such as ranges, ovens, slicers, mixers, toasters, food processor, refrigerator, freezer, and dishwasher machine.
  • Re-stock paper supplies as needed.
  • Maintain kitchen area to health standards, wash, sanitize and store dishes, tableware, and utensils.
  • Follow food service professional sanitation standards, including dress, appearance, hygiene and habits.
  • Inspects equipment for cleanliness and functional operation and follows maintenance request process as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:15am-3:45pm
