Subject Matter Expert 2 – Electrical Safety Officer
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Officer (Subject Matter Expert 2) to oversee the LANL Electrical Safety Program and serve as the primary point of contact for all electrical safety-related concerns. This role provides advanced technical safety support to ongoing construction and field projects, ensuring full compliance with NFPA, IEEE, OSHA, and DOE standards.
The successful candidate will conduct incident investigations, lead safety assessments, develop safety documentation, and collaborate closely with project managers, craft personnel, engineers, and other field professionals.
This is a critical role supporting one of the nation's most important research facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical safety across LANL.
- Administer and maintain the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
- Support LANL employees/managers with electrical safety concerns.
- Conduct electrical incident investigations, determine root causes, and create corrective action plans.
- Perform inspections of workplace and construction environments to identify electrical hazards.
- Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Assist in developing codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety.
- Provide advanced technical support to engineers and scientists on complex problems.
- Evaluate items/services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
- Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores.
- Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of electrical safety or field engineering experience
(or equivalent combination of education/experience) - Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
- Advanced knowledge of NFPA, IEEE, OSHA electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E
- Experience with electrical engineering/technology, including low-voltage AC & DC systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based analysis tools
- Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum Experience: 7 years
- Maximum Experience: 15+ years
- Education: Bachelor's degree
- Certifications: NFPA / IEEE / OSHA familiarity preferred
- Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen only
- Relocation: Accepted
