Carlsbad, California, United States Nearmap Full time
Company Description

The sky's not the limit at Nearmap

We're a SaaS company, with proprietary hardware and software that's continuously advancing through our commitment to innovation. The sky's the limit when it comes to what we can and plan to do for our customers. Our imagery is just the starting point. Our impact comes from our people, applying complex analysis, interpretation and artificial intelligence that opens up all sorts of possibilities for our customers.

Job Description

As a Solution Product Manager for Insurance Underwriting, you will shape Nearmap's product offerings that empower insurance carriers in evaluating risk and underwriting policies. This role focuses on the entire pre-loss policy lifecycle including quoting, new business underwriting, renewal underwriting and loss control use cases of Nearmap's software, imagery and data – helping underwriters and loss control staff assess properties accurately, price policies appropriately, and reduce the need for on-site inspections by leveraging remote intelligence. You will work closely with insurance stakeholders to gather insights on underwriting processes, and you will guide the development of features such as property condition analysis, automated risk scoring, or portfolio risk assessment tools using Nearmap's high-resolution imagery and AI datasets. Collaborating with engineering, content, and analytics teams, as well as aligning with marketing and industry domain experts, you will ensure that Nearmap's underwriting solutions address the evolving needs of insurance carriers and contribute to more efficient, data-driven underwriting.

Key Responsibilities

Build and Prioritize the Underwriting Product Roadmap

  • Own the strategic roadmap for insurance underwriting solutions with a focus on aerial imagery and geospatial data.
  • Prioritize high-impact features like risk scoring dashboards, change detection alerts, and remote property surveys.
  • Ensure roadmap aligns with insurer needs across underwriting workflows and risk assessments.

Partner Across Teams and with Customers

  • Collaborate with insurance clients, underwriters, and executives to gather product requirements.
  • Work with the Content and Impact Response team to ensure imagery updates cover critical policy areas.
  • Coordinate with the Data Integrations team to enable ingestion into policy platforms and risk models.
  • Stay aligned with the Industry Market Manager to track market trends and regulatory shifts.

Deliver Actionable Risk Insights through AI and Analytics

  • Work with data science teams to generate underwriting insights from aerial imagery.
  • Surface key property attributes (e.g. roof condition, defensible space) that correlate with risk.
  • Present these insights in an intuitive, decision-ready format for underwriters.

Drive Adoption, Value, and Go-to-Market Execution

  • Monitor usage and track impact on key metrics such as inspection reduction and loss ratio improvement.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing to communicate value and support feature launches.
  • Use adoption data to continuously refine and improve the underwriting product experience.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of product management, business analysis, or underwriting experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in or closely with the insurance industry (especially in underwriting or risk assessment roles).
  • Solid understanding of property & casualty insurance underwriting practices and the data used in risk evaluation (e.g., construction attributes, roof condition, environmental hazards, historical loss data).
  • Experience with data-driven products or analytics solutions is beneficial, particularly those involving geospatial data, remote inspections, or property data feeds in an underwriting context.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and model outputs, and translate them into user-friendly product features for underwriters and risk analysts.
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting criteria (e.g., roof material, pools, tree coverage, maintenance signals)
  • Understanding of compliance in underwriting (e.g., data use restrictions, documentation requirements)
  • Familiarity with industry trends like predictive analytics, machine learning, and climate-related risk data
  • Awareness of emerging needs such as remote underwriting and faster quote turnaround
  • Understanding of underwriting systems (policy admin platforms, workbenches, third-party data sources)
  • Ability to identify product opportunities that align with underwriter workflows and changing market needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Confident engaging with underwriters, insurance executives, and technical stakeholders
  • Clear communicator who can translate technical topics into business-relevant language
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
