Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Associate General Dentist to join our busy practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated dentist to step into a busy schedule, develop professionally, and build lasting patient relationships in one of New Mexico's most vibrant and culturally rich communities.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provide comprehensive general dentistry services including preventive, restorative, and cosmetic procedures
- Perform examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning for patients of all ages
- Execute a full range of procedures including fillings, crowns, bridges, extractions, root canals, and dentures
- Deliver quality endodontic, periodontal, and prosthodontic care within scope of general practice
- Perform minor oral surgery procedures as needed
- Interpret radiographs and diagnostic tests accurately
- Monitor and manage dental emergencies with appropriate clinical judgment
- Maintain high standards of clinical excellence and patient safety
Patient Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with patients through excellent communication
- Educate patients on oral health, treatment options, and preventive care
- Present treatment plans clearly and address patient questions and concerns
- Obtain informed consent and ensure patient understanding of procedures
- Provide compassionate care that considers patient comfort and anxiety levels
- Communicate effectively with excellent chairside manner
Practice Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with dental hygienists, dental assistants, and experienced administrative team
- Participate in case consultations and continuing care discussions
- Coordinate referrals to specialists when appropriate
- Contribute to practice development and quality improvement initiatives
- Attend staff meetings and team-building activities, as applicable
- Mentor and support team members in delivering excellent patient care
Professional Standards
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records and documentation
- Adhere to infection control protocols and OSHA regulations
- Comply with all state and federal regulations governing dental practice
- Stay current with continuing education requirements and emerging dental technologies
- Practice within ethical guidelines established by the ADA and state dental board
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Qualifications
Required:
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from accredited dental school
- Current New Mexico dental license in good standing (or ability to obtain)
- Current DEA and CS registration (or ability to obtain)
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain)
- Excellent clinical skills across comprehensive general dentistry procedures
Preferred:
- 1+ years of clinical experience in general dentistry (new graduates with strong clinical training will be considered)
- Advanced training in cosmetic dentistry, implant restoration, or other specialty areas
- Experience with digital dentistry and digital radiography
- Proficiency with dental practice management software
- Understanding of and appreciation for Santa Fe's diverse, multicultural community
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in restorative dentistry (amalgam and composite restorations)
- Crown and bridge preparation and cementation
- Removable prosthodontics (complete and partial dentures)
- Root canal therapy
- Oral surgery (extractions, including surgical extractions)
- Periodontal therapy and treatment
- Preventive dentistry and patient education
- Experience with digital imaging and intraoral cameras
- Familiarity with modern dental materials and techniques
